  • Job Summary

    THIS POSITION BEGINS AUGUST 14, 2026.

    Provides instruction and conducts classes in the area of physics. The candidate should be able to teach introductory and college-level physics courses, including their respective labs. The candidate must have competence in the laboratory environment and the ability to provide students with a meaningful laboratory experience. The candidate is required to participate in departmental, college, and district committees, as well as in professional development activities.

    Essential Functions

    Oversees and instructs introductory physics courses to students in a classroom and / or lab setting. Develops written syllabi / course outlines and course materials. Evaluates subject-matter knowledge and monitors students' scholastic records, and assesses student learning for success. Prepares and grades exams. Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field. Promotes the scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and / or workshops. Maintains office hours to assist and advise students. Engages in the academic life of the college by participating in District-wide and College committees.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following :

  • Master's degree or higher in the teaching field OR
  • Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching field
  • Any course containing "Physics" in its title, Physical Science, Circuits, Mechanics, Condensed Matter, Astronomy, Cosmology, Electrodynamics, Electrostatics, Fluids, Gravity, Interference, Magnetism, Material Science, Optics, Nanotechnology, Dynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Sound, Spectroscopy, Thermodynamics, Waves, or IC discretion

    Desired Qualifications

    A. Experience in teaching physics lecture / lab courses at the college / university level.

    B. Experience teaching Physics in a traditional in-person classroom.

    C. Experience teaching Physics in an online delivery format.

    D. Evidence of professional growth in Physics as listed on the resume

    E. Experience using active learning or innovative instructional techniques.

    F. Evidence of teaching physics courses of multiple levels (Provide list of courses taught on resume)

    Special Working Conditions

    Will be required to handle and work with a variety of chemicals for use in classrooms and laboratories; may be required to lift up to 40 lbs.; may require numerous evenings or weekends; may require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen; will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD / GCC locations.
