Hennepin Healthcare is currently seeking Pharmacy Techs to join our busy Pharmacy Departments.
Opportunities will include a variety of schedules and shifts including, part-time and full time positions with benefits for primarily day / evening rotating shifts, rotating weekend and holidays. Some openings have bilingual requirements.
This posting is a talent pipeline requisition to field interested applicants for consideration for any approved openings in the departments.
A sign-on bonus is available for eligible external candidates (contract / temporary workers and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible). One year (or other timeframe) work commitment required.
SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist performs a variety of technical and clerical duties allowable by law, while maintaining a favorable image of the pharmacy within the hospital and in the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Answers phones for the pharmacy department and directs calls to appropriate personnel
- Maintains knowledge of the Hospital Credit and Collection Policy and other related policies
- Prepackages, prepares, labels and hands out prescriptions after they are checked by a registered pharmacist
- Maintains cash registers, credit card machines and reporting for cash transactions
- Prepares daily deposits for the cashier’s office
- Bills and credits patient medications
- Stocks inventory in Pharmacy
- Routinely checks and removes outdated and expired medications
- Delivers medications to patient care and ancillary areas and picks up new orders as scheduled
- Files prescriptions and reports
- Maintains the pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion
- Enters outpatient prescriptions
- Obtains and records patient drug histories
- Triages orders, determines priorities, processes orders and notifies the pharmacist as appropriate
- Performs various calculations to determine the correct dose using weight
- Identifies the appropriate product to process based on the prescription order
- Triages insurance rejections and initiates prior authorization claims as needed
- Uses appropriate pharmaceutical-medical terms, abbreviations and symbols
- Maintains a working knowledge of general chemical and physical properties of drugs
- Compounding medications as per Minnesota Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations
- Responsible for safe and careful handling of chemotherapeutic medications
- Assist with other duties as assigned but only after appropriate training
