Job description

The Head Racquets Professional for Adult Programming at The Kansas City Country Club (KCCC) will have the opportunity to drive significant impact at one of the Midwest’s most elite private country clubs. If you are an experienced racquets professional, charismatic leader, collaborative teammate, and innovative programmer, this position is an excellent opportunity to showcase your talents.

The KCCC seeks to add a highly energetic Racquets Professional to drive adult programming and participation. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and a history of working collaboratively with other racquet professionals and staff. In addition, the candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent coaching and organizational skills in both tennis and pickleball. Visibility, member engagement, and authentic enjoyment of building member relationships will be essential to the position.

The Kansas City Country Club

The Kansas City Country Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs in the Midwest. Founded in 1896, The KCCC celebrated its 125 th anniversary in 2021 and in 2024 two transformational projects were launched with the complete demolition and reconstruction of its racquet court complex and golf course. The Racquet complex is scheduled to reopen in April of 2025 and the golf course is scheduled to reopen for play in April of 2026.

The new $8M dollar racquet facility will feature 6 post tension concrete tennis courts, 5 dedicated post tension pickleball courts and two heated platform tennis courts. During colder months 5 tennis courts and 4 pickleball courts will be covered with brand new Arizon racquet bubbles each year from October through April.

Additional amenities of the Club include an A.W. Tillinghast designed golf course currently being restored by architect Andrew Green, Historic Clubhouse with numerous indoor and outdoor member dining areas, banquet spaces for up to 300, swimming pool complex, and Fitness Center. The Club is a multi-generational, family-oriented club.

The Kansas City Country Club is a traditional, private, family-oriented country club whose mission is to provide its members and their guests with exceptional dining, social, recreational, and wellness experiences through personalized service, sound governance and fiscally responsible management that fosters enduring friendships in a welcoming environment.

Position Overview

The Head Racquets Professional must work to ensure the successful achievement of the mission and objectives of KCCC.  The successful Head Professional is primarily responsible for the oversight and execution of all Adult Racquet Sports Programs and will work directly with the Director of Racquets, Racquets Committee, Senior Staff leadership, and all Racquets staff to ensure clear and consistent communications as it pertains to expectations, organization, event creation, services offered.

The Head Professional will be responsible for all adult Tennis and Pickleball activities. Working with the Director of Racquets and fellow professionals, The Head Professional will ensure the utilization of all facilities, and all operations to deliver the best experience for both Members and guests and will be able to forecast, plan, and manage most facets of the Department including, instructional, staff mentorship and supervision, social and competitive programming, interclub team creation and of course the highest level of member service.

The Racquets Program's goal is to deliver a consistent member / guest experience that meets or exceeds expectations daily. The Head Professional will strive to maximize the member experience through creative planning and strategies that increase offerings while enhancing member participation. Member outreach will play a significant role in day to day activities.

Member, Staff Member, and Committee Relations

  • Create comprehensive events and activities to include social, competitive, and instructional programming for all levels.
  • Develop an annual events calendar that takes into consideration the other sports and amenities of the club.
  • Organize, schedule, and manage tournaments, clinics, round robins, social events, and other adult racquet-related activities to maximize members’ access to and enjoyment of the Racquet’s facilities.
  • Create interclub teams and then provide organizational and structural support for league team’s practice and play. Provide a fair and equitable system for teams to be organized and governed
  • Work with players to assess their skills, set goals, and provide pathways for improvement.
  • Offer private, group lessons and clinics as needed.
  • Create programs that encourage players to participate in competitive and social tennis.
  • Candidate Qualifications

  • A strong and passionate leader with a proven track record of providing premier services in a dynamic, preferably multiple racquets sport, private membership environment.
  • Verifiable strength in working closely with staff, boards, committees, and other key contributors to developing, executing, and updating strategies to success.
  • Someone with a history of innovation, and a champion of new ideas and initiatives, looking to consistent improvement of member experiences and operational efficiency.
  • Of equal importance are exemplary two-way communication (both written and spoken) and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all committees.
  • The candidate will exhibit excellent organizational, technological, and time management skills.
  • Education and Certifications

  • College degree preferred.
  • Must be PTR or RSPA Certified with 5+ years of tennis coaching / teaching with private country club or racquet club managerial experience. Equivalent for Pickleball and Platform.
  • USTA level 5.0 minimum tennis playing ability ideally
  • Division 1 Collegiate or professional experience a plus.

    Salary and Benefits

    Salary is open and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Club offers an excellent benefits package, including association membership.

    Total Compensation Range : $70,000-$100,000
