Overview

The Plumber II is responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and waste water disposal in the facility. The Plumber II works in cooperation with other trades and laborers to ensure that all specifications, legislation and policies are met, and to ensure efficient completion of any project. Providing adequate services will ensure that all water supply networks, waste systems and drainage systems are installed, repaired and maintained to meet all standards of building codes and safety.

This position is located at Henry Ford Main Campus - Detroit, MI.


Responsibilities

Install, repair and maintain plumbing systems and components – 70%

  • Diagnoses cause of problems and/or failures in water systems to identify equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs domestic water pumps, water piping lines, water filters and plumbing fixtures.
  • Repairs and maintains steam stations, valves, heating and condensation return stations and sewer and storm drains.
  • Tests fire system valves, tamper switches, fire pumps and dry deluge fire systems.
  • Maintains the piping and supply of cylinder and bulk medical gas systems.
  • Prepares the preventative maintenance schedule and produces monthly reports.
  • Develops procedures and conducts preventative maintenance and service inspections of backflow devices and cross-connection control awareness.
  • Responds to emergency situations during or after hours to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Identifies and recommends long-term needs and strategies for plumbing systems and components, resulting in cost savings.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders to provide information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying.

  • Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment to ensure availability in safe operating condition.
  • May coordinate, maintain and repair all energy management systems.
  • May travel to multiple sites to perform functions of the role.
  • May be required to coordinate, inspect repair and maintain other systems as assigned.

Special Projects – 30%

  • Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Assists, participates in and/or leads special projects as assigned.
  • Provides additional support and training to facilities stakeholders, including Level I plumbers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Must have one or more of the following:

  • Graduate of trade school.
  • Relevant license with 3 years’ experience.
  • 5 years’ relevant experience in lieu of license.
  • Other equivalent combination of relevant education or experience.
