Job Description and Duties
Patton State Hospital Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) permanent, full-time appointment to the Plumber I position in the Facility Operations Department. The position is under the direction of the Plumbing Supervisor. Applicants must possess the following requirements and knowledge :
Plumber I responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to :
- Inspection, installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing equipment relating to water, gas, oil, sewer, and fire control.
- Knowledgeable in Construction and General Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety applicable to plumbing and relevant building codes.
- Troubleshoot plumbing systems.
- Knowledgeable of principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing industry.
- Maintain and adhere to tool control policy and procedures.
- Maintain accurate record keeping.
- Ability to read blueprints, work from plans and specifications, prepare rough sketches for minor plumbing installations and estimate material and labor cost.
- Adhere to safety and security policies and procedures.
- Knowledgeable of building, construction, and safety codes applicable to the plumbing industry.
- Ability to bend, reach, ascent stairs, slopes, and inclines.
- Work at heights applicable to trade demands, and labor in the outdoors in all weather conditions.
Successful candidate must be dependable, have interpersonal skills, the ability to collaborate and communicate professionally with others, and the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Desired Qualifications : Plumbing apprenticeship or equivalent experience.

Working Conditions
Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.
