Description
Selected candidates are appointed as Police Cadet on a probationary period while attending academy. Upon satisfactory completion of Basic Law Enforcement Academy and receipt of State of Florida Law Enforcement Officer certification, Cadets are promoted to probationary Police Officers.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications :
1. Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age at time of application.
2. Must be a United States citizen.
3. Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
4. Must possess valid Florida driver's license.
5. Must be of good moral character
6. Must have one of the following :
- At least 30 college credits
- Honorable discharge from the service in the United States Armed Forces
- One (1) year of continuous full-time employment as a Correction Officer, Crime Scene Technician, Public Service Aide, Crime Analyst or Police Communications Officer.
- Three (3) years of consecutive work experience
7. Required to take and successfully pass the following tests given through Broward College-Institute of Public Safety (BC) :
Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to, evaluation of education, training and experience; oral interview(s); background investigation; reference checks; medical evaluation; controlled substance screening. Preference will be given to certain veterans, spouses of veterans, or unmarried widows / widowers of veteran. Proof of veterans' eligibility must be provided at time of application EOE M / F / D / V. Applicants with disabilities who desire special accommodation MUST notify the Human Resources Department at the time of application.
