Position Summary The Police Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching University of the Incarnate Word Police Officers and Security Officers to any campus or University location upon request.   • Provide service, information and directions to the campus community and visitors as the primary nerve center of all campus police operations.
  • Perform a full range of radio and telephone operational duties in this 24-hour operations center.
  • Enter and maintain accurate daily activity logs to include a variety of communication equipment, including radio console, telephone, fire alarm monitoring systems and other related computer systems to include Report Exec.
  • Receive emergency and non-emergency calls from staff, faculty, students and general public requesting service.
  • Comply with all of University Of The Incarnate Word policies and guidelines.
  • Check on criminal records and backgrounds using National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System. Enter stolen vehicle and other information as required into the database.
  • May perform general clerical duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate with the community, visitors, officers and staff via phone and radio systems.
  • Ability to prioritize incoming calls and push out the necessary information to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure during high stress situations and obtain detailed information.
  • Must exercise good judgment in providing for the safety and welfare of students, employees, visitors and University Of The Incarnate Word property.
  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
  • Effective Oral communication skills; clear concise speaking voice and the ability to type 25 wpm.
  • Must abide by attendance standards as this is a critical 24 hour operations center.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Ability to successfully pass a physical and psychological evaluation as required by TCOLE standards.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
  • Required Education High School Diploma or GED Certificate. Required Work Experience Six (6) months of experience in a position that requires public contact, receptionist, dispatching or related duties.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Some College.
  • One year of job related experience.
  • One year experience to include experience with radio communications and computers.
  • Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

  • Must have or be able to obtain a TCOLE license as a condition of employment.
  • Must have a valid driver license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.
  • Work Hours Must be flexible to work varying shifts based on the needs of the department.

    Current shift schedules are :

  • 6am to 2pm
  • 2pm to 10pm
  • 10pm to 6am
  • Work days are 5 days on, 2 days off. Physical Demands

  • Long work hours in a restricted area.
  • Ability to clearly hear communication on phone, police radio system, and internal radio system.
  • Ability to speak clearly in emergency situations.
