TITLE : School Police Sergeant

SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY :

Assist school administrators in creating and maintaining a safe and secure school climate and learning environment for students, staff and visitors; provides full range of law enforcement services to the District – including crime prevention, physical security, criminal investigation, warrant service, prisoner transport, as well as emergency plans and operations. Routinely exercises jurisdiction over school-age children in Marion County, regardless of specific location.

WHAT YOU’LL DO :

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains rapport with students.
  • Establishes and maintains rapport and routinely works closely with school administrators. Participates in all campus activities as a full member of the school team.
  • Exercises IPS emergency plans at the school level as appropriate.
  • Monitors school radio frequencies and responds appropriately.
  • Other duties as assigned

Day In the Life” Overview

On a regular day, as the School Police Sergeant, you might :

  • Supervise officers under you command
  • Transports commissioners or other VIPs when directed.
  • Protects students’ rights.
  • Attends and participates in student case conferences and parent meetings when requested.
  • Plans for and conducts walking patrols of school campuses, maintaining high visibility. Plans for and patrols school district to inspect buildings and campuses.

  • Provides on-the-job-training for officers in probationary status.

  • Follows policies and procedures; supports districts goals and values.
  • EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

    High School diploma or GED certification.Individual must have a minimum of three years successful Tier One law enforcement experience and a relatively clean disciplinary record.
