Job description

Vice President, Operations Procurement West

Gordian is a leader in facility and construction cost data, software, and services across the full building lifecycle. As the pioneer of Job Order Contracting (JOC), Gordian supports public and private sector clients through innovative procurement solutions, proprietary RSMeans data, and operational intelligence tools.

The Vice President, Operations Procurement West is responsible for the overall operational performance, scalability, and growth of Gordian's procurement operations across the Pacific and Central West regions. This role provides senior-level oversight for multiple regions and their Regional Directors, ensuring consistent execution, strong financial results, and a resilient operating model that supports growth. This leader plays an active role in setting operational direction, making trade-offs, and driving disciplined execution across initiatives that impact revenue, margin, and customer outcomes.

This leader brings a growth mindset and strong problem-solving aptitude, balancing disciplined execution with continuous improvement. The VP partners closely with the COO and executive peers to improve how the business operates, scales, and serves clients, while remaining close enough to operations to remove obstacles and drive results.

Role Scope & Accountability

  • Oversees multiple regions through Regional Directors
  • Owns West region operational outcomes, including revenue growth, margin performance, client retention, and operational efficiency
  • Acts as a senior operator, thought partner, and escalation point for complex challenges
  • Drives consistency, scale, and capability across regions while allowing for market-specific needs

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities associated with this role include:

Enterprise & Regional Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop Regional Directors, ensuring accountability for operational performance, people leadership, and client outcomes.
  • Set clear expectations for execution, financial discipline, and service delivery across all West regions.
  • Foster a performance-oriented culture focused on ownership, learning, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a steady senior leader during change, growth, or operational challenges.

Operational Excellence & Problem Solving

  • Identify systemic operational challenges and lead cross-regional solutions that improve consistency, scalability, and execution quality.
  • Guide regions through complex operational issues, serving as an escalation point for high-impact risks or client concerns.
  • Ensure initiatives move from alignment to sustained execution, with clear metrics and escalation paths.
  • Improve procurement and JOC operational models to support efficiency, risk management, and growth.
  • Champion practical improvements to tools, processes, and workflows that reduce friction for teams and clients.
  • Lead structured problem solving (PSPS, countermeasures, Kaizen, FBS methods) to address performance gaps, execution risks, and operational constraints.

Growth Enablement & Performance Improvement

  • Partner with Sales, Account Management, and Operations leadership to support regional growth, including new client launches, expansions, and complex implementations.
  • Ensure regions are operationally prepared to absorb growth without sacrificing margin, quality, or client experience.
  • Leverage data and KPIs to identify performance variability, diagnose root causes, and drive targeted improvements.
  • Support client retention and expansion by ensuring strong operational execution and issue resolution.
  • Enable and scale Strategic Account Management practices by ensuring operations, data, and execution models support deeper customer engagement and measurable growth.

Financial Ownership & Business Management

  • Own consolidated operational performance for the Sector, including revenue, margin, and cost control.
  • Hold Regional Directors accountable for forecast accuracy, actionability, and follow-through.
  • Proactively identify performance gaps and activate countermeasures early to protect revenue outcomes.
  • Partner with Finance and the COO to balance investment, operational capacity, and profitability.

Cross-Functional Executive Partnership

  • Collaborate with peers in Sales, Product, Technology, Legal, Contractor Engagement, HR and Government Affairs to solve complex business and client challenges.
  • Serve as an execution leader for enterprise initiatives, ensuring decisions translate into action and results at the regional level.
  • Provide operational insight and perspective into executive discussions, planning, and decision-making.
  • Serve as the primary West-region operations voice in enterprise initiatives and change efforts.

Talent Development & Succession

  • Build a strong bench of Regional Directors and operational leaders capable of scaling growth with the business.
  • Identify skill gaps and ensure targeted development focused on operational judgment, financial acumen, and people leadership.
  • Be a multiplier of talent to support succession planning and leadership readiness across the regions.
  • Embed a culture of extreme ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement across regional leadership teams.
  • Use performance management to reinforce expectations, course-correct quickly, and recognize strong execution.

Key Capabilities & Attributes

  • Growth Mindset Sees challenges as opportunities to improve systems, capability, and outcomes.
  • Problem Solving & Judgment Breaks down complex operational issues, identifies root causes, and drives practical solutions.
  • Execution Leadership Translates strategy into clear decisions, ownership, and sustained results; known for driving follow-through, not just alignment.
  • Executive Presence Operates credibly with senior leaders, clients, and external partners.
  • Operational Leadership Deep understanding of how procurement, construction operations, and service delivery scale.
  • Financial Acumen Strong grasp of margins, forecasting, and operational cost drivers.
  • People Leadership Develops leaders, not just teams; sets expectations and drives accountability through others.
  • Change Leadership Leads through ambiguity, growth, and evolving business needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 12+ years in operational leadership, procurement, construction, or closely related fields, including leadership of leaders (Director-level and above).
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven success overseeing multi-region operations with revenue and margin accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale operations while maintaining quality, consistency, and client satisfaction.
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High comfort working across functions and influencing without direct authority.
  • Willingness to travel up to ~4050% across the West region.
