Job descriptionB.S. degree in Optical or Electrical Engineering or Physics. Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment working on complex systems with interdisciplinary engineering teams. Hands-on experience handling and aligning free-space optical components (lenses, mirrors, etc.). Experience operating lasers and optical metrology equipment. Solid understanding of fundamental optical concepts (PSF, MTF, resolution, etc.). Experience performing measurements using optical and electrical test equipment. Prior experience working in cleanroom environments and / or with flight hardware. U.S. Citizenship. Master's degree. 2+ years of professional experience in a related field. Knowledge of optical communications modulation and demodulation schemes. Experience with System Tolerance and Performance (STOP) analysis. Data analysis or software development skills in LabVIEW, C++, Java, Matlab, or Python. Experience with stray light analysis.

About the Role :
As an Optical Engineer on this program, you will play a vital role in the development and testing of advanced laser communication systems. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to design, build, and test free-space and fiber-optic systems for space-flight applications.
This position is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Responsibilities :
- Develop and execute assembly and test procedures for free-space and fiber-optic systems intended for space applications.
- Define optical performance and tolerance requirements.
- Support the installation and testing of optical components, assemblies, and payload systems using thermal chambers, vacuum chambers, and shock and vibration stages.
- Build and align free-space optics assemblies and testbeds (lenses, mirrors, beam splitters, etc.).
- Perform fiber-optic assembly, including high-reliability fusion splicing processes for specialty fiber types.
