JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY :

At Tagawa Greenhouse Enterprises, Young Plants Sales & Marketing team is responsible for providing sales support, marketing, customer / account services, new program coordination for our Young Plants division (PowerStarts) and relationship with Ball Horticultural and generating positive brand awareness for our company. Tagawa is one of the largest annual bedding plant suppliers in North America, providing vegetative liners, plugs, and prefinished programs to growers, garden centers, and retailers throughout North America.

The Soft Goods Procurement Manager at Tagawa Greenhouse Enterprises LLC plays a key role in processing information related to inventory and soft good procurement. This position communicates to multiple different teams, including Production teams, Inventory teams, Suppliers, to ensure we can procure and process Soft Goods inventory required to fulfill orders in our business. Procurement Managers may have anywhere between 0-2 seasonal employees directly reporting to them based on the scope of their assignments.

This is a full-time, year-round position that requires at least 2-3 years of relevant professional experience within a similar role and / or combined equivalent of industry experience and education. (As such, a bachelor's degree in horticulture, business, or a related field is preferred but not required for the role.) Experience with PICAS or a similar greenhouse inventory management system is highly preferred. This position is currently slated as an in-person role full-time (40-50+ hours per week) depending on the time of year. Some travel out of state may be required, however, is infrequent (0-5 times per year). As such this role is required to meet the requirements to be placed on the Designated Driver list and is eligible for company mileage / travel reimbursement during approved business travel. An ideal candidate is detail oriented, and a strong communicator with proven experience within the industry in a role that involved purchasing, procurement, inventory / supply chain management, greenhouse management, or developing relationships with breeders, suppliers, or other industry professionals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

Supplier / Vendor Management : Develop and maintain professional relationships with suppliers. This position serves as the suppliers' primary point of contact and must build a rapport to aid in securing high quality products in a timely manner.

  • Secure high-quality inputs (e.g. unrooted cuttings / vegetative inputs, seed, tissue culture ("TC"), etc.), hard goods, and services for production processes.
  • Sourcing : Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of young plant inputs (vegetative unrooted cuttings, seed, tissue culture, etc.), hard goods, and related services.
  • Negotiate contracts to ensure favorable pricing and establish clear terms for delivery schedules and quality guarantees.
  • Order Management : Addresses any issues or concerns and ensuring timely deliveries of inputs / materials.
  • Manages Q / N (quality notifications) as it relates to challenges with inputs (product that are unable to be shipped due to damages / defective inputs / materials, poor quality inputs, delayed shipments, incorrect quantities, etc.)
  • Operational Inventory & Spec Management

  • Determine the specific types and quantities of input necessary for greenhouse production schedules.
  • Complete data analysis to manage caps on specific varieties / programs based on availability of soft inputs (both from breeders and internally), hard goods, and space allocation set by the greenhouse / production teams.
  • General Procurement Responsibilities

  • Enter data and keep accurate records that pertain to inventory within the system. Keep detailed records of planting dates, germination data, and other critical information to inform future planning.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of essential supplies to support production efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Communicate detailed information and numbers to other administration groups, greenhouse teams, and other clients / customers / vendors. Assist with work orders assembly, compiling information, and label printing.
  • Respond to problems regarding quality of inventory and communicate any issues as instructed by the Young Plants Manager.
  • Process Management : Analyze information regarding inventory history and performance. Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and process optimization. Implement efficient procurement processes while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and internal procedures.
  • There are times when a Procurement Manager would be required to assist with or take on additional responsibilities and / or cross-train to assist covering peak work requirements and the work content of the other Procurement Manager based on the needs of the department / business. This position may also be required to assist different departments with projects both in the field and in greenhouse facilities / offices as assigned by the Young Plants Business Manager or CEO.

    Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.
  • A bachelor's degree that included coursework in horticulture / greenhouse management / floriculture and / or 1-2 years professional experience OR an equivalent combination of education / experience to exemplify knowledge and experience in horticultural plants and breeding is required for the role.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills with experience using MS Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Power BI, Outlook, etc.). Experience using PICAS or other production software and programs highly preferred
  • At least 2-3 years' professional experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory / supply chain management, greenhouse management, or professional experience coordinating with breeders, suppliers, vendors, or others is required.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating to clients, managers, vendors, co-workers, and employees in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Must be able to communicate in both oral and written correspondence in English and effectively present information in both spoken and written forms using situation-based language in both one-on-one and group settings while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • All candidates must pass a background check review that includes federal / state / county criminal, sex offender registry, and motor vehicle records (MVR) following an offer of employment to be considered for placement in an administrative / managerial role.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and / or move up to 20 pounds, frequently push / pull racks on wheels, and occasionally move benches or products of up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Job requires employees to be on their feet for long periods of time, sit, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch or crawl with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • All employees collecting mileage reimbursement must be on the Tagawa Greenhouse Designated Driver list and have an annual MVR approved by our insurance provider (Hortica). This will require you to have transportation to make it to the greenhouse facilities as scheduled, a valid Driver's License, and proof if insurance for vehicle used for work related purposes. Mileage and travel expenses are reimbursed as per company policy.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. Must be able to work in all Greenhouse conditions including wet, humid, dusty, dirty, and extreme hot / cold temperatures with or without reasonable accommodation. To prevent injury, employees must abide by the safety procedures set by Tagawa Greenhouse Ent., LLC. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colored vision, peripheral and depth perception.
