This is supervisory, technical work in the operation of water production facilities of a new water treatment plant that is being constructed at 2120 N. Hoover in Wichita. The employee is responsible for planning, directing, and reviewing the work of skilled and technical staff in the water treatment plant for a particular shift to ensure the production and delivery of safe drinking water. Work is directed and reviewed through establishment of goals and subsequent evaluation of progress toward goal attainment.
Experience in the water treatment industry is a valued asset. Compensation will be based on individual experience and determined at hire based on skills and competencies. The role provides additional opportunities for swift pay progression linked to the development of skills and competencies. The salary range for this position is $61,634.00 - $113,364.00 annually.

Examples of Work Performed
- Directs the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant and on-site pump station.
- Manages and trains operations and maintenance personnel.
- Oversees staff who are responsible for adjusting water levels, flow rates, chemical dosages, and other water treatment processes.
- Responds to water quality concerns, troubleshoots treatment problems associated with pH, solids level, mixing intensity, chemical dosage, and biological processes, and directs appropriate corrective actions.
- Records information about plant performance on log sheets or computer databases.
- Coordinates plant maintenance while maintaining 24 / 7 operation of the plant.
- Creates, assigns, and reviews electronic work orders and maintenance records.
- Communicates and coordinates concerns about water quality and quantity with staff at all pump stations and at the Aquifer Storage & Recovery (ASR) Facility and Wellfield.
- Conducts research and provides consultative services as needed.
- Hires and evaluates staff, develops staff training plans, takes disciplinary action as needed, and recommends additions or changes in personnel.
- Reviews and approves employee leave and timesheets and recommends appropriate changes in employee pay.
- Maintains reference and resource materials.
- Implements safety regulations and assures conformance.
- Assures compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Assists staff with process control, operations & maintenance, and instrumentation tasks as needed.
- Monitors weather and forecasts daily water consumption and production requirements.

Requirements of Work
Required Experience and Training
Must have a Kansas Class IV Water Supply System Operator certification. If a candidate possesses a valid Supply System Operator certification from another state, the applicant must complete the reciprocal process within the first six (6) months of hire.
Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
Starting pay for current City employees will be determined by City of Wichita policy or applicable bargaining unit agreement.
