Job Description

Who We Are

Woodruff Sawyer has been an industry leader for over 100 years. As a top insurance brokerage, our clients range from small start-ups to some of the most innovative companies in the world. Here, your unique expertise and perspective helps move companies ahead and your career forward.

We believe in supporting the whole lives and careers of our employees. That's why, through excellent benefits and opportunities, and a genuinely inclusive and collaborative environment, we create the space for you and your career to flourish.

As an employee-owned company, we build toward the next decade, not just the next quarter. Our independence means you answer to great ideas and client success, not short-term profits, while our ESOP program allows you to build long-term wealth and ownership in the company. At Woodruff Sawyer, you own your future .

How We Work

We are excited to offer a hybrid workplace that we believe is a win for our people, for our business, and for our clients. Our policy has been carefully and thoughtfully designed to combine the benefits of collaborating, learning and mentoring, and bonding with our teams in-person while enjoying the flexibility of working remotely up to 3 days a week.

All roles are hybrid unless otherwise indicated on the job post. Find our office locations here.

About the Role

If you've worked in property insurance, you know the importance of risk assessment - but as an Associate Account Engineer at Woodruff Sawyer, you'll be on the other side of the table. Instead of writing engineering reports, you'll be using your engineering and insurance knowledge to advocate for clients with carriers.

Growth Opportunity

This role is ideal for someone looking to expand their property insurance engineering expertise into the broker technical engineering side. You'll learn to apply your engineering knowledge to advocate for the client, while continuing to develop your engineering skills and advance within the vast insurance industry.

What You'll Do

  • Work directly with clients to prioritize their property exposures, with the goal of helping clients improve their risk profile. You'll translate complex engineering requirements into practical action plans for clients.
  • Partner with carrier engineers to negotiate realistic timelines and alternatives for implementing loss control recommendations. Your insurance and engineering experience will help you understand what's reasonable versus what's ideal.
  • Support property loss control aspects of renewals
  • Advise clients on fire, machinery breakdown, and natural hazard exposures
  • Perform physical site surveys, collecting the necessary information to assemble marketing and COPE reports
  • Advise account service teams on natural hazard exposures and limits
  • Master industry tools like Marshall & Swift to validate building valuations, and natural hazard mapping.

This job is for you if…

  • You develop relationships and credibility quickly
  • You can effectively collaborate with various team members in a fast-paced, client-centric environment, showcasing dependability and determination
  • You effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, and carriers
  • You have technical expertise on property loss control standards and concepts
  • You adapt to fast-changing environments and shift focus as priorities change
  • You're a positive role model, encouraging collaboration within the organization
  • You have a focus on growth, education, and personal / professional development
  • Experience & Qualifications

  • At least 4 years property insurance risk engineering experience
  • Understanding of FM Global, NFPA, or other HPR standards and concepts
  • Strong communication skills - you'll need to explain technical concepts to both clients and colleagues
  • Ability to travel in the Pacific Northwest (15-30% of time), with occasional trips elsewhere
  • Don't meet every single preferred qualification? Studies have shown that underrepresented populations are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet all qualifications. At Woodruff Sawyer we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

    More About Us

Compensation : Anticipated salary between $86,250 – $136,000. Salary offered will be dependent upon geography, experience, and expertise of the candidate.
