Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking to hire a Content Writer for Inkblot. 60% of the duties are designated to writing original content, while 40% is designated to promoting ASUN through mass newsletters. Note : There is no direct supervision of others.
Work Environment
The employee will work in a climate-controlled office with artificial lighting and a personal computer most of the time. If there is not enough space in the Inkblot office, the employee will be required to work at the computers in the common area.
Consequences of Error / Responsibility for Decisions
The Content Writer is a big part of Inkblot because they keep us connected with the student body. By having an active presence online, we are able to relate with our students and keep them interested in ASUN. If the Content Writer becomes complacent and less interactive, then ASUN’s image will have been compromised.
Responsibilities
60% - Writing Original Content
Write an original blog posts for the Nevada ASUN website each week (cover ASUN-related events, services, etc.)
Write captions for Nevada CSE account
Work with Photo, Video and Social Media team to create and share content
Assist the Inkblot Social Media Manager with captions and other related content
Keep a running list of potential posts to write (underrepresented clubs or organizations, lists, tips, highlights, etc.)
Promote ASUN clubs and services through blog posts
40% - Promotion of ASUN through Mass Newsletters
Prepare ASUN newsletter that will be sent out via Mailchimp system every two weeks
Work with ASUN Clubs and Orgs Commission to prepare Clubs and Orgs newsletter to send out via Mailchimp once per month
Utilize a variety of promotions, including social media, blogs, webpages and videos
Required Qualifications
Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno
Candidate must complete 30 credits in an academic year and maintain a 2.75 GPA
Candidate must have a clear understanding of WordPress and MailChimp
Candidate must have good communication skills
Candidate must have good understanding of AP Style
Candidate must have an understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Candidate must be a proficient writer
Candidate must be impartial and self-motivated while working
Candidate must be able to work within deadlines
Candidate must be able to understand the big picture (e.g., How everything works together and what each step is going to lead to)
Candidate must demonstrate attention to detail and good organization skills
Candidate must demonstrate respect for the office and all of its associates
Candidate must develop an understanding of Apple computers
Candidate must understand the ASUN, Inkblot, and client working environments
Candidate must understand and abide by Inkblot, ASUN, and university standards
Candidate must utilize all resources available in the office (Basecamp, OWA, etc,)
