Must have demonstrated knowledge of laws and regulations governing special education.
Ability to work effectively with staff, parents, community members, and students to maintain and strengthen sound human relations for the improvement of the school program.
Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural, diverse community.
Essential Functions :
Serve as a case manager and consult with school personnel, parents and outside agencies regarding student need and progress as needed.
Lead development of Individualized Education Plans (I.E.P.s) and maintain compliance with N.J.A.C. 6A : 14.
Complete comprehensive psychological evaluations, including using the use of cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral assessments for use in eligibility determination and program planning.
Serve as a contributing member of the Child Study Team (C.S.T.) and participate in all C.S.T. meetings and requirements as per N.J.A.C. 6A : 14.
Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Behavior Intervention Plans.
Conduct observation, interviews, and collect data for use in Manifestation Determinations.
Provide individual and group counseling, as well as treatment planning for students.
Provide crisis response and intervention, crisis counseling, and risk assessments as needed.
Observe referred and classified students in the classroom and other school settings.
Serve as liaison between the school district and child and / or family agencies in terms of school placements for students outside the district.
Refer cases to the appropriate community and outside agencies as is needed.
Participate in home visits and TPC meetings for early intervention referrals.
Proficiency with IEP database software preferred.
Maintain all records and data in a manner consistent with N.J.A.C.6A : 14.
Perform all aspects of the position in accordance with New Jersey Administrative Code and policies of the Board of Education.
Assist the administration in implementing all policies and / or rules governing student life and conduct.
Fulfill all pertinent responsibilities required by local, state, and federal authorities.
Strive to improve professional competence.
Participate in in-service programs as directed.
Implement the professional improvement plans as specified in the observation and / or evaluation reports.
Perform, as assigned by the Superintendent or his / her designee, additional or alternate duties which are within the scope of employment and certification.
