Bldg / Medical School Location-City New Orleans School / Division MEDICAL SCHOOL Department Psychiatry Position Summary The Department of Psychiatry of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) School of Medicine in New Orleans is seeking candidates for 2 academic faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (non-tenure, clinical track) to provide adult psychological services as a clinician and provide trauma-informed evaluation, psychotherapy and assertive case management services to survivors of violent crime. The incumbents will also provide clinical supervision, consultation and training to staff and trainees on trauma-informed, evidence-based interventions. The incumbents will also be involved in program development and provide in-service trainings to other programs. These positions will be housed in the UMC Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) which is the first of its kind in Louisiana. The TRC is designed to help survivors of violent crime and traumatic injury overcome barriers to accessing mental health treatment, health care, and legal resources in the acute aftermath of trauma, with a focus on reaching underserved communities. Additional Position Information Caseload consists of complex clients, all of whom have histories of trauma, which may include acute and chronic physical or sexual abuse, interpersonal violence (e.g., sexual assault, physical assault, domestic violence), community violence (e.g., gunshot wound, stab wound), accident- or work-related injuries (e.g., motor vehicle collision), political torture, and immigration trauma. Many clients also have concurrent medical problems, psychosocial problems, and may have substance use concerns as well.
Assists in organizing and co-teaching a didactic Trauma Seminar on the assessment and treatment of acute and chronic trauma in underserved populations, using evidence-based practices.
