JOB SUMMARY :
The City of Oak Park is recruiting for Public Service Worker I candidates!
This position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks such as the operation of heavy equipment including loaders, trucks and backhoes. The Public Service Worker I also performs manual labor in functions of water & sewer, parks & forestry, street maintenance and repair. Employees in this position may be assigned to any division of the Department of Public Works. Additionally, due to driving responsibilities, employees in this position are subject to the Federal Drug and Alcohol testing act requirements, and perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Operation of a variety of power tools, including mowers, blowers, chainsaws, chippers, trimmers, etc.
- Operation of large commercial equipment, including dump trucks, graders, backhoes and loaders
- Perform ice and snow control activities, including shoveling and salting
- Perform tree pruning and tree removal
- Repair, installation and maintenance of underground sewers, lift stations and their appurtenances
- Lawn and landscape maintenance including cutting and edging grass, planting, watering and care for trees shrubs and flowers
- Performs repair and maintenance of pump stations, water meters, hydrants, and curb stop boxes
- Repair and maintain streets and sidewalks including concrete and asphalt removal and replacement, street signs and markings
- Maintains accurate work records, time sheets and other forms of data
- Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS :
The Public Service Worker I must be available for all dates of assignment, and must be able to work overtime when called in to work. Additionally, the Public Service Worker I must live no more than 25 minutes from the City of Oak Park.
SALARY RANGE :
This is a full-time, TPOAM Bargaining Unit position with an hourly rate of $23.3648 - $28.2292, with benefits.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and perform manual labor. The employee must frequently lift and / or move items of heavy weight. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in the field in dust, smoke, and outdoors in inclement weather. The employee will be required to work overtime for this position and the noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
