Job description

Position Summary

The Public Health Environmental Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and enforcing environmental health programs to protect and promote public health. This role involves conducting inspections, assessing environmental risks, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supporting community health initiatives. The Officer works closely with teams, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to address environmental health concerns effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Environmental Assessment & Inspections

Conduct routine inspections of public facilities, workplaces, water sources, and other environmental sites.

  • Identify environmental hazards and assess risks to public health.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and national environmental regulations.
  • Data Collection & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, assessments, and environmental incidents.

  • Prepare detailed reports, summaries, and recommendations for management and regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor environmental health trends and provide data-driven insights.
  • Program Implementation & Support
  • Assist in planning and implementing environmental health initiatives and interventions.

  • Coordinate with other public health teams to integrate environmental considerations into health programs.
  • Participate in community awareness campaigns and training programs.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Advisory
  • Advise communities, organizations, and internal teams on environmental health standards and practices.

  • Follow-up on compliance issues and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Support audits, investigations, and enforcement actions as required.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Liaise with government agencies, NGOs, and community stakeholders for environmental health initiatives.

  • Provide guidance and technical support to team members and field staff.
  • Participate in workshops, meetings, and public health forums.
  • Qualifications

  • Education :
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, or related field.

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience :
  • 2-5 years of experience in environmental health, public health, or related field.

  • Experience in conducting inspections, monitoring programs, or regulatory compliance preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies :
  • Strong knowledge of environmental health principles, sanitation, and safety standards.

  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work in the field independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Effective communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and public health policies.
