Human Resource (HR) Professional Job Description Facility:

  • Brazos Valley Food Bank (BVFB) Position: Full-time (40hrs week) Position Title: Human Resource Professional Department Name: Administration Reports To: Executive Director Pay Range: $60,000-$70,000 Classification: Exempt ** A combination of in-office and remote schedule within Texas may be considered for this position Job Summary of the HR Professional (HRP) : The Human Resources Professional (HRP) oversees the full employee lifecycle, ensuring alignment between organizational values and employee experience.
  • This role leads recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and training while fostering a positive, equitable, and high-performing workplace.
  • Currently, HR functions are decentralized across departments and supervisors.
  • The HRP is a new, full-time, salaried position, currently with no direct reports, wo will report directly to the Executive Director and work centralize HR responsibilities within the organization.

Core Responsibilities Recruiting & Hiring •Develop and maintain equitable, transparent hiring processes •Partner with supervisors to create and update job descriptions (including standardization of job descriptions across the organization) •Manage job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, and selection in coordination with pertinent staff •Facilitate structured interviews with pertinent staff and develop hiring team debriefs •Conduct reference checks •Prepare and present competitive, equitable offers aligned with salary ranges in coordination with pertinent staff •Manage background check process for candidates made an offer •Maintain complete and compliant hiring documentation •Analyze compensation and benefits trends to support talent attraction Onboarding/Offboarding •Design and implement consistent onboarding experience, including:

  • oPolicies & procedures review, mission/values discussion, organizational structure/org chart, tour of the facility, staff introductions oSystems training ([Human Resources Information System], timekeeping, benefits platforms) oRequired compliance trainings (harassment, safety, etc.) oProcess orientation (work order, office supply ordering, parking, keys) •Ensure all new hire logistics (accounts, equipment, email, business cards, nametags, scanning account, shirts, etc.) are completed •Manage offboarding processes, including exit interviews, resource collection, and documentation Employee Administration & Support •Maintain accurate and compliant employee records and HRIS data •Serve as primary HR contact for employee questions and support about organization processes, procedures, and policies •Ensure consistent interpretation and application of policies •Handling child support payments, dependency-related financial assistance, and related documentation for current employees. •Handling employee requests for Student Loan & Loan Forgiveness Programs, including Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), student loan repayment incentives, and other loan forgiveness or repayment assistance. •Issuing employment verification for benefits, PSLF, or other programs (auto/home loans, etc.), and maintaining accurate employment records.

Benefits Administration • Monitor, track, and maintain accurate employee Paid Time Off (PTO) balances, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and timely reconciliation of accruals, usage, and reporting. • Educate staff on employer supported Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) •Administer employee benefits programs (health, vision, dental, life, and retirement, as well as 401k) – information entry, sign up links, benefits description dissemination, etc. •Lead annual benefits renewal and open enrollment process for all full-time staff •Partner with insurance brokers to evaluate renewal plans and make recommendations to leadership •Ensure timely and accurate employee enrollment •Manage regulatory compliance (employee notices, etc.) of 401k and health insurance plans Employee Engagement •Lead and support employee engagement efforts that enhance employee satisfaction, retention, and overall organizational effectiveness •Administer employee engagement surveys (annual or pulse) and share key insights with leadership •Identify trends in employee feedback, turnover, and morale; recommend practical, cost-effective improvements •Partner with managers to strengthen communication, team engagement, and employee experience •Support simple and meaningful employee recognition and appreciation efforts •Maintain regular feedback channels (e.g., check-ins, surveys, informal touchpoints) to understand employee needs •Promote transparency and consistency in internal communication across the organization •Support initiatives that promote employee well-being and help mitigate burnout Employee Relations Employee relations encompasses all the day-to-day functions of overseeing the people side of businesses, including:

  • •Advise and support managers on employee relations and performance issues •Conduct investigations from official, internal complaints (harassment, misconduct, etc.) •Support disciplinary actions and terminations •Manage unemployment and Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) claims Performance Management •Oversee and continuously improve performance management processes •Support goal setting, evaluations, and development planning •Train managers on feedback and performance practices Compliance & Risk •Regularly review current Personnel Policies & Procedures for compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws •Comply with all relevant laws regarding reporting and records retention •Maintain accurate records and reporting systems •Monitor regulatory changes and implement updates •Mitigate organizational risk through proactive HR practices Strategic Responsibilities •Support workforce planning and organizational structure development •Educate Board and leadership on succession plan and keep the process forward moving, when activated •Align HR practices with organizational strategy and culture • Represent the organization in relevant HR networks and partnerships •Partner with leadership to anticipate and meet staffing needs Training & Development •Develop and deliver training programs for staff and managers •Lead leadership development and workforce skill-building initiatives •Promote a culture of continuous learning Organizational Support • Support organizational initiatives, events, and change management efforts • Chair BVFB’s organization-wide Safety Committee • Point of contact for workplace Incidents and Incident reports, including ordering drug testing when appropriate Qualifications Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field • 3+ years HR experience, including full-cycle recruiting and training • Experience in employee relations and compliance • Proven experience in developing policies and procedures and implementing them Knowledge & Skills • Strong knowledge of HR laws, practices, and systems • Experience working in and with various Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and analyzing data contained within (paperless hire, time and attendance, benefits administration, leave tracking, goal management, performance management, etc.) • Impeccable documentation skills • Excellent facilitator and communicator • Excellent organizational skills and follow-through • Ability to manage multiple projects at once with professionalism, attention to detail and with a human center focused • Experience developing systems where none existed before • Managing cost experience preferred • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook Core Competencies • Emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills • Integrity and confidentiality • Adaptability and problem-solving • Relationship-building across all levels • Passionate about purpose and impact, culture building, strategic alignment, and continuous learning • Professional, with personal boundaries • Ethical, moral, and honest • Commitment to mission-driven work Other •Engage with and participate in relevant Feeding America (FA) opportunities •Serve as the BVFB representative with Feeding Texas (FT) committees/work groups/trainings representing HR • Keep empowerment of people facing hunger, as well as equity, diversity, and inclusion in mind with all that you do •Communicate effectively, appropriately and in a timely fashion with the Executive Director •Follow all Agency Policies & Procedures •Attend regularly scheduled one on ones with supervisor •Attend quarterly All Staff meetings •Discuss all ideas and changes that may appear controversial, political, or socially ambiguous with supervisor before acting •Get approval from supervisor in advance of any financial expenditures not budgeted for •Assist with all BVFB fundraising events, when needed •Assist in BVFB disaster related efforts • Flexible, with availability to work a weeknight or weekend as needed • Valid driver's license required. • Must pass criminal background check before hire.
