General Responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Chief Communications and Community Engagement Officer, the position is responsible for developing and disseminating key messages to internal and external stakeholders, serving as a strategist and spokesperson for all external communications about issues pertaining to the school division. Additionally, the role includes managing digital platforms and supervising assigned staff.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement public relations, marketing, and media strategies in collaboration with the Chief Communications and Community Engagement Officer.
- Coordinate video creation with the division's production staff, including scripting, filming, and overseeing video production.
- Manage the division’s website, including creating web pages, graphics, and multimedia content, ensuring ADA compliance.
- Evaluate project requests, set priorities, and oversee their execution.
- Lead, train, and evaluate staff such as webmasters and graphic designers.
- Assist in developing and conducting training in communication and public relations.
- Establish and maintain media relationships; respond to media and public inquiries.
- Prepare press releases, media advisories, and multimedia presentations.
- Draft speeches, talking points, op-eds, and content for stakeholder presentations.
- Plan and manage the division's social media strategy to enhance brand awareness.
- Support special projects and events, including school board recognitions and division initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in content management systems, Adobe Creative Suite, video production, and digital communication principles. Leadership and supervisory experience. Excellent communication skills, social media expertise, and ability to work under pressure, including handling emergencies and working remotely.
Education and Experience
Required : Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, digital media, or related field. Proficiency in CMS, WordPress, Adobe Suite, videography, and photography.
Preferred : Master’s degree, experience in public relations, crisis communication training, video production, and storytelling skills.
Physical Requirements
Effective communication abilities, sensory skills, and physical capacity for sitting, walking, bending, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Must adhere to work schedules and accommodate disabilities.
