Job Description Job Title: Public Spaces Attendant (Custodian) Reports to: General Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Location: On-Site Direct Reports: None Department: Property Operations JOB SUMMARY: The Public Spaces Attendant (Custodian) is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the hotels public areas, laundry facilities, and exterior grounds. This includes regular cleaning of lobbies and restrooms, assisting with laundry operations, helping prepare rooms for guest check-ins, and responding to urgent maintenance or safety situations as needed. This role ensures a welcoming and safe environment for all guests and staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Clean and sanitize all public areas, including lobbies, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, and other shared spaces. Wash, dry, and fold laundry as needed to support housekeeping operations. Assist with preparing guest rooms for check-in by supporting the housekeeping team. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of exterior grounds (e.g., picking up trash, emptying trash cans, clearing walkways, cleaning dumpster area, sweeping entryways). Monitor common areas for safety hazards and report issues to the General Manager. Respond promptly to emergencies, including fire alarms, water leaks, electrical outages, or other urgent facility needs. Use cleaning products and tools safely and in accordance with training and safety guidelines. Perform light maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, or resetting breakers as trained Perform other job duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous custodial, maintenance, or housekeeping experience a plus, but not required. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship. Employment is subject to E-Verify verification. Must be at least 18 years of age. EXPECTATIONS: Maintain a clean, safe, and professional appearance while on duty. Be punctual, dependable, and available to work scheduled shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility to support additional coverage when needed. Follow all safety and operational policies and report any safety concerns immediately. Communicate respectfully with guests and team members. Adapt to changing priorities and take initiative to identify areas needing attention. Work cooperatively with others to meet property goals. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and crouch for extended periods during a shift. Must be able to lift/move up to 25 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance (e.g., laundry bags, trash bins, equipment). Must be able to use hands and arms for repetitive tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, wiping, mopping, lifting, and pushing. Must be able to detect odors such as smoke, gas, or strong cleaning chemicals to help maintain a safe environment for guests and staff. Must have vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals, odors, dust, dirt, and varying indoor or outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
