Job description

Seton Hall University Libraries invites applications for two (2) full-time permanent Inter-professional Health Sciences (IHS) Library faculty positions. Reporting directly to the Dean of University Libraries, successful candidates will serve as liaisons to the School of Health and Medical Sciences (SHMS) and the College of Nursing (CON) as a team with course-integrated instruction and outreach and serve as members of the Research Data Services team. We seek candidates with experience working in undergraduate or graduate academic allied health sciences libraries and / or in clinical or hospital library settings to staff the Library & Information Commons in the Interprofessional Health Sciences building in Nutley, NJ. Both CON and SHMS are PhD granting units and the IHS Library supports information literacy outcomes from the undergraduate through the graduate levels along with dissertation requirements and submissions. The facility is shared with the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine (HMSOM) students, who are served by a separate HMSOM library collection and staff. These are lecturer positions, which are full-time and permanent.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provide faculty and student instruction, consultation and support in allied health disciplines

including citation management, evidence-based practice, instructional support, interlibrary

loan and & document delivery, NIH Public Access Policy, Data Management Plans and

other federal mandates, and some work on literature reviews.

  • Support health informatics, data services, information literacy & evidence-based Health
  • Sciences practices.

  • Both positions will split some time between Seton Hall’s main library in South Orange and
  • the Nutley campus in coordination with the Public Services, Data Services, and Scholarly

    Communication teams., including OER resources.

  • Both positions will participate in library and other committees that would grow outreach to
  • SHMS and CON for instruction, data literacy training, data analysis, and visualization for

    undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Engage with professional organizations, research, or publishing that will have a significant,
  • positive impact on University Libraries and the Seton Hall Research community.

  • One librarian position will work function as site (facility) manager, the other librarian will
  • cover some technical services functions responsibilities – both as needed.

    Required Qualifications :

  • MLS or MI from an ALA-accredited graduate program.
  • Experience in clinical or academic medical librarianship, or as a nursing liaison and with
  • experience in searching major academic and health sciences databases and / or

    demonstrated

    subject knowledge in the SHMS and CON fields.

  • Experience providing health information tools (LibGuides or the equivalent) and research
  • consultations in an academic library setting and in teaching information and data literacy

    skills

    using databases, datasets, and data visualization tools.

  • Evidence of a strong commitment to student-centered services.
  • Evidence of excellent oral and written communication, teaching, analytical skills, and
  • project management.

  • Ability to manage work priorities and outreach across the two different campuses and work
  • independently.

  • Commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in our workplace, as well as in the
  • systems, services, and collections.

  • Knowledge of Quantitative and Qualitative research methods.
  • Desired Qualifications :

  • Proficiency in common tools used by researchers who work within health sciences
  • nursing, public health, speech pathology, health science, occupational therapy, physical

    therapy, physician assistant).

  • Proficiency with MS Excel advanced functions (Pivot Tables, data analysis) and statistical
  • packages such as Stata.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn one programming language and / or data visualization
  • tools such as PowerBI.

  • Knowledge of survey and qualitative analysis software.
  • Knowledge of scholarly research trends and research methods in health sciences,
  • leadership, and emerging areas

  • Knowledge of health science research methodologies, data applications and repositories,
  • and health and government information sources.

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement effective programs and complex projects.
  • Evidence of project management experience.
  • Familiarity building and maintaining print and digital collections.
  • Salary Grade : FA01 - Faculty
