Job description

Purchasing Associate

QXO, Inc. is the largest publicly traded distributor of roofing, waterproofing, and related products, and the second largest publicly traded distributor of lumber and building materials in North America. The company is targeting $50 billion in annual revenues within the next decade through accretive acquisitions and organic growth.

The Purchasing Associate supports procurement and inventory operations by managing purchase orders, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring timely and cost-effective replenishment of materials. This role plays a key part in maintaining product availability, supporting sales and operations, and ensuring accurate inventory management. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process, track, and confirm purchase orders with vendors
  • Coordinate delivery schedules and follow up to ensure on-time arrivals
  • Compare vendor pricing, freight rates, and availability to support cost-effective purchasing decisions
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Monitor inventory levels and support replenishment planning
  • Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders for accuracy
  • Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory processes
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using internal systems
  • Serve as a liaison between purchasing, sales, operations, and logistics teams
  • Communicate delivery timelines, product availability, and order status
  • Support material transfers between locations as needed
  • Assist warehouse teams with inventory systems and reconciliation processes
  • Provide timely and professional communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support resolution of order issues, delays, or discrepancies
  • Assist in maintaining a high level of customer service and satisfaction
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes and efficiency
  • Stay informed on market trends, product availability, and pricing changes
  • Cross-train with team members and support onboarding of new associates
  • Share knowledge and contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic math and analytical skills for pricing and inventory tracking
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain operations
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems or WMS platforms
  • Experience in distribution, construction, or building materials industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar business tools
  • Comfortability with primarily working office-based with interaction across warehouse and operations teams
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to occasionally support in warehouse or inventory environments
  • Ability to occasionally work extended hours based on business needs
