Job description

The Quality Assurance Engineer (QAE) serves as a key operational and technical partner within AWS Data Center Engineering (DCE), d supporting the delivery of large-scale hyperscale data center design and construction projects. This role is focused on engineering design quality, construction coordination, project lifecycle governance, and operational process management associated with the development of new AWS data center infrastructure, and developing scalable mechanisms to improve operational efficiency across Design Engineering.

The Lead QA Engineer operates with a high level of ownership and ambiguity management, supporting fast-paced programs across multiple regions, disciplines, and stakeholder groups. This role partners closely with Design Managers (DMs), Discipline Leads (DLs), Construction, Design Services (DS), Project Controls, consultants, and program leadership to ensure design deliverables meet AWS quality standards, schedule commitments, and operational readiness requirements.

This role requires strong technical judgment, construction and engineering coordination experience, operational rigor, and the ability to drive scalable mechanisms supporting fast-paced global infrastructure delivery programs. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Key job responsibilities

2. Understanding of design development, design change management, permitting, and implementation (working with CMs/RFIs/Submittals) lifecycle.
3. Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, reducing and automating manual work through standardization and automation.
4. Lead quality assurance reviews for multidisciplinary engineering design deliverables across all major project phases including early design and construction release milestones for new AWS data center construction projects.
5. Review engineering drawings, narratives, specifications, and supporting construction documentation for completeness, quality, coordination, and compliance with AWS standards and project requirements.
6. Coordinate and manage cross-functional engineering review workflows between Discipline Leads, Design Managers, consultants, Design Services, and external partners to support successful project execution and milestone delivery.
7. Support end-to-end project lifecycle coordination activities including project provisioning, folder structure governance, access management, milestone tracking, distribution workflows, document control, and engineering project setup activities across systems of record.
8. Manage and monitor design review SLAs, milestone approvals, DEREL escalations, revision trends, quality metrics, and unresolved design issues while proactively identifying risks impacting schedules and project delivery.
9. Support Construction Administration (CA) activities including participation in OAC meetings, RFI coordination, Submittal review tracking, consultant follow-ups, issue escalation management, and coordination between engineering and construction stakeholders throughout project execution.
10. Serve as a primary operational owner and subject matter expert (SME) for Design Engineering- Design Management platform workflows, governance mechanisms, milestone routing, approval tracking, reporting dashboards, and engineering project coordination processes across multiple regions and stakeholder groups.
11. Drive standardization and continuous improvement initiatives by developing scalable workflows, templates, governance mechanisms, reporting structures, and automation opportunities across engineering and construction management systems including Smartsheet, Salesforce, Procore, ACC, and related project management platforms.
12. Mentor and support onboarding of junior QAEs while promoting engineering quality standards, operational consistency, customer obsession, and a culture of high standards across the organization.
13. Communicate effectively with senior leadership through clear operational narratives, risk summaries, escalation reporting, strategic recommendations, and executive-level documentation related to engineering delivery performance and construction readiness.
