Summary
Employee is under the guidance of the Survey Division Field Supervisor or the direction of a crew leader. Employee is responsible for survey work accomplished while performing land boundary, geodetic, engineering and construction surveys. Employee may work alone, or lead and direct the work of other surveyors in accomplishing necessary survey activities. This position requires the application of the technical knowledge of surveying methods and techniques, and the operation of survey instruments and equipment, in the collection and transference of measurement and evidence data, and the establishment of positions "on-the-ground".
Any one position may not include all duties nor do the example of duties include all tasks, which may be found in the position of this class.
What You'll Do
Control construction activities.
What It Takes To Succeed
Requires language development level of English as illustrated by the following examples : Understands technical manuals and verbal instructions as well as drawings and specifications associated with conducting engineering and land boundary surveys. Knowledge and application of intermediate Math : Perform arithmetic, algebraic, geometric and trigonometric procedures in practical surveying applications, including Cartesian coordinates. Comprehension of engineering drawings and maps, and also land surveying drawings, diagrams, plats and legal descriptions of property boundaries. Verbal communication abilities in transmitting and receiving technical information. Written communication abilities to create basic surveying reports and documentation. Visualization / specialization abilities. Drawing and drafting abilities to create basic surveying sketches and drawings. Knowledge, skill and abilities to use and operate : a variety of surveying instrumentation and equipment, including total stations, electronic data collectors, upload / download interfaces, laptop computers, mobile radios, cellular telephones, digital cameras, LiDAR Scanners and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) equipment; and also, using basic surveying hand tools, such as : hammers, picks, shovels, axes, chainsaws, tapes, compasses, hand-level's, prisms, etc. Independence and self-motivation.
Experience
a) For Surveyor B-1 : A minimum of 3 years' experience in engineering surveying and land surveying work, and satisfactory demonstration of competency in : the Fundamentals of Land Survey Measurements, the Fundamentals of Land Surveying Research and technical math, such as Algebra and Trigonometry. To qualify candidates must have at least 1 year of applicable land surveying experience within the past 3 years.
b) For Surveyor B-SR : A minimum of 4 years' experience in engineering surveying and land surveying work. Satisfactory demonstration of competency in the Fundamentals of Land Survey Measurements, in the Fundamentals of Land Surveying Research, and in technical math, such as Algebra and Trigonometry. To qualify candidates must have at least 1 year of applicable land surveying experience within the past 4 years.
c) For Surveyor A-SR : A minimum of 1 years' experience as a Surveyor B-SR, supervisors' approval and the satisfactory completion of 200 hours in each the following areas : distribution power surveying, high voltage transmission topo / construction surveying, substation topo / construction surveying, water topo / construction surveying and 16 hours Safety of Dams experience. The experience in each category will be under the direct supervision of a Surveyor A-SR.
Note : Competency Equivalencies
For Surveyor B-1 successful completion of the NSPS CST Level II exam. For Surveyor B-SR. successful completion of : the NSPS CST Level III exam, or the NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exam, or the NCEES Principals and Practices of Surveying (PS) exam, or the demonstrated successful completion of equivalent College level courses or certification programs, may be accepted in lieu of academic and experience requirements in the above, at the discretion of management.
To become a Surveyor A-SR, a candidate must have completed a minimum of 1 year as a Surveyor B-SR along with the requisite hours prescribed in paragraph c above.
Education
High School, GED or Equivalent.
Testing and Certifications

Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
