University of Missouri School of Medicine / MUHCColumbia Township, MO, United States

Job description

The newly created Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine and Ellis Fischel Cancer Center is accepting applications for an ABR BE / BC Radiation Oncologist at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level. Academic rank, compensation, and appointment type will be based on qualifications and experience. Candidates must have demonstrated ability in teaching and in scholarly productivity. The faculty appointment will be in the Department of Radiation Oncology. The candidate will be expected to maintain a clinical practice at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. The position provides resources, state-of-the-art facilities, and excellent opportunities for collaboration with investigators in the University of Missouri in Columbia Medical School. Candidates will have the opportunity to mentor and teach trainees and students. Academic time will be used to pursue scholarly work in the candidate’s area of specialty / research experience with a goal of developing collaborative or independent, externally funded research. Faculty will be active in their national organizations and foster an academic environment.

Currently, the department treats more than 600 new patients (both adult and pediatric). Candidates are being recruited to engage in clinical, research, teaching, and administrative activities. The Department is anticipating a rapid growth due to recently established neurosurgery department and the expansion of oncological services through Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. The successful candidate will possess strong clinical and interpersonal skills, provide excellent clinical care in collaboration with disease-specific oncology teams, participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and clinics, and perform research with mentorship by senior faculty as appropriate. Career development, especially for early / mid-career faculty, will be a priority. For qualified candidates, leadership opportunities which support the clinical, research, and educational missions will be available.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • MD or DO degree and Board Certification / Eligibility in Radiation Oncology
  • Must have current, unrestricted, medical licensure in the state of Missouri or be eligible for unrestricted licensure in the state of Missouri
  • Academic credentials that qualify for appointment at the rank of assistant professor, associate professor.

We foster a collegial environment, and the candidate will routinely collaborate with the radiation oncology staff. Our team works with disease site-specialized surgeons and oncologists to provide our patients with optimal cancer treatment through multidisciplinary tumor boards and clinics. Opportunities to collaborate with researchers and clinician-scientists abound at the University of Missouri. Being part of the four-campus, land-grant University of Missouri System provides access to rich resources and distinctive capabilities.

Our Ellis Fischel Cancer Center (EFCC) offers opportunities for the radiation oncology faculty to engage in clinical trials sponsored by the Alliance Co-operative Oncology Group and NCI Cancer Trials Support Unit to include NRG trials. In addition, the EFCC Clinical Trials Office also supports investigator-initiated and pharma-sponsored clinical trials. We also offer collaboration opportunities with Siteman Cancer Center to engage in clinical trials, receive mentorship, conduct joint research projects, publications, and / or submit grants.

Looking to the future, we are making a huge investment in medical research. The NextGen Precision Health Institute is a $220 million, 265,000-square-foot research facility that is a hub where scientists and clinicians collaborate, and supports a Clinical and Translational Science Unit that also facilitates clinical trials. The facility is equipped for every step of the translational research process and houses a MAGNETOM Terra 7 Tesla (7T) MRI scanner, the first of its kind in Missouri. The University of Missouri has unparalleled infrastructure and basic science faculty collaborators to develop the next generation of radiopharmaceuticals for imaging and therapy.

The department is equipped with a newly installed Varian Ethos with the capability of adaptive radiotherapy and a Varian TrueBeam with capability of SRS and SBRT. We also have an active brachytherapy program.

Columbia is a university community with excellent availability of theater, music, arts, sports, and outdoor activities. Central Missouri also offers lakes, hills, agricultural property, and rural communities.

Columbia is an ideal college town that combines small-town comforts, and community spirit, with big-city culture, activities, and resources. Our community is energetic and engaged, packed with restaurants and entertainment venues, and hosts more than a dozen annual cultural festivals.

This position is eligible for University benefits. The University offers a comprehensive benefit package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, retirement, and educational fee discounts.
