Provide a welcoming environment and offering a safe recreational and educational experience on the Zooline Railroad and employee shuttles. Duties include light maintenance, cleaning and driving the train and shuttles, serving as conductor and platform assistant, and selling train tickets. This position starts at $15.50 per hour, but may increase based on certain factors including experience, and availability.
Responsibilities include assisting guests boarding and disembarking trains,
driving or serving as conductor on trains, inspecting trains and shuttles for safety and pulling and parking trains and shuttles for storage. Cleaning trains to maintain a first-class appearance. Selling tickets and cash handling may be required. This position also requires other duties as assigned as they pertain to the Visitor Services department.
Minimum requirements
High School Diploma, strong communications skills, maintain a valid class E driver’s license, and pass a yearly physical.
Abilities required
Applicants must be available most weekends and holidays, Work outdoors in various weather conditions. Withstand the physical stress of getting on and off trains frequently.
An Engineer must be able to maneuver guests using wheelchairs on and off trains and able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to drive shuttles in city traffic. People skills are required to considerately handle guest issues within guidelines of Zoo policies.
All successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check and a drug test. As this is a safety-sensitive role, a negative drug test result is mandatory. The drug test screens for five substances, including marijuana.
