POSITION SUMMARY / CLASS DESCRIPTION
BRIEF DESCRIPTION :
Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager and the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisors, the Pool Operator will operate all aspects of the swimming lesson, open swim and Water Exercise and aquatic program at the Cedar Lane Therapy Pool.
DUTIES :
- Responsible for implementing all safety standards required for a well-rounded, safe aquatic program and all records (attendance, accident reports, chlorine readings, schedules).
Communicate health related information to staff delivering lessons.
Supervise staff and participants during guarding.
Monitor participants for distress, such as seizures.
Handle discipline problems and public relations.
Work closely with the community to develop a well-rounded safe aquatic program.
Attend pre-season and in-service training sessions and participate in life-saving skill practices.
Assess skills and teach swimming lessons.
Complete all necessary paperwork.
In case of inclement weather responsible for canceling and contacting manager to rescheduling swimming lessons and sessions.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS :
American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid / CPR.
Howard County Pool Operator's license.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
Must be knowledgeable in the areas of pool sanitation, water chemistry, and filtration.
Display leadership abilities and be able to delegate duties to staff.
Must be at least 19 years old.
Must have reliable transportation and evening availability.
Must teach Red Cross swimming lessons.
EXPERIENCE :
Must have experience teaching swimming lessons.
EDUCATION :
High school diploma; college degree preferred.
RATE OF PAY :
Contingent - Pay rate commensurate with experience.
Paraprofessional : $20.00-$24.00 per hour.
