- NATURE OF WORK : The Carter Lake Community features a full-size gymnasium, walking track, fitness room, multi-purpose room(s), warming kitchen, weightlifting room, and commons area. External features include various parks, a bike trail, baseball fields with several concession stands. The purpose of the Community Center Recreation and Sports Manager is to assist the Community Center Director in the overall management and operation of the Community Center, gym, group fitness, and sports programs including programming and direct advertising to support the center and its offerings.
EDUCATION STANDARDS :
Knowledge of recreational sports rules and regulations.Knowledge in physical education, coaching or officiating is desired.Two years’ experience in recreational activities, fitness, and / or sports.Degree in related field is desired.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES :
General knowledge and understanding of recreation, fitness, sports scheduling, league development, and event coordination.General knowledge and experience in planning, prioritizing, and organizing a variety of recreational sports activities with a possible changing workload.General knowledge of program development, promotion, and budgeting.Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with the public, staff, and vendors.Ability to promote sports programs through various channels, including social media, flyers, and community outreach.Ability to effectively resolve conflicts and address participant concerns.Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with co-workers, the public, members & guests and other City departments.The ability to effectively manage facility programming software, use of a personal computer, including word processing, copy and electronic viewing devices, phone, social media, and various other technologies.CPR / First Aid, follow all safety protocol, and mandatory reporter requirements. (CPR / First Aid Certifications must be completed within the first 90-days of employment)Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.Must be available to work flexible hoursFUNCTIONS OF POSITION :
The Recreation and Sports Manager will implement Community Center Director goals and manage all aspects of fitness, event, recreation, and sports programming, including recruiting and coordinating officials, overseeing tournament operations, and maintaining effective communication with participants and staff.This role also involves ensuring proper implementation of concession stand policies, leases and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and sports rules.Report on the status of recreation and sport programs to include progress, issues, and equipment needs.Works in coordination with the Community Center Director in development of indoor and outdoor recreational activities and programs.
Programs a broad, diversified recreational / sports activities and services for all ages.Assists as directed the development and utilization of city sports recreation facilities with other departments, schools, and civic organizations.Obtains volunteer coaches for different sports activities and obtains umpires and referees as needed.Aid in the management and facility equipment, monitoring activities and programs of the facility to maintain accurate financial and statistical records.Provides administrative support by answering questions, maintaining correspondence with other departments, interfaces with community groups and actively promote the facility throughout the community as needed.Ensures the department is well staffed and properly maintained and all public spaces are kept safe, organized.Meets regularly with the Community Center Director to revise and review facility activities and programs, marketing materials, policies, procedures, comments and suggestions of members and guests including suggestions for recommendations.Gain approval as directed for building, park, and field rental requests in line with the outlined policies and facility availability.Monitors facilities safety for assigned staff and members of the community using the building and all recreational areas.Attend as directed by the director all relevant community engagement meetings through the city and attend all relevant training needed of the position.Other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Position requires excessive walking, running as well as some moderate lifting up to 50 pounds.Work is performed primarily in a city community center or related facility. Some activities may be performed outdoors, where incumbents are exposed to varying temperatures, but seldom in inclement weather.
