Position Overview :

The Heavy Civil Project Manager will oversee all phases of FDOT construction projects, from pre-construction through to project completion. This role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in heavy civil infrastructure and a thorough understanding of FDOT standards and regulations. You will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. As a leader in the field, you will manage a team of engineers, field personnel, subcontractors, and vendors, while maintaining effective communication with FDOT representatives and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead the execution of FDOT infrastructure projects, including roadways, bridges, drainage systems, and other transportation-related construction.
  • Manage all aspects of the project, including planning, design review, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and quality control.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and budgets, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within financial parameters.
  • Coordinate with FDOT project managers, engineers, and other government officials to ensure all project requirements, guidelines, and specifications are met.
  • Oversee subcontractors, vendors, and field teams, ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with FDOT standards and regulations.
  • Manage the procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with specifications.
  • Implement and enforce strict safety protocols on the job site, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, FDOT safety standards, and company policies.
  • Prepare and review project documentation, including contracts, change orders, RFIs (requests for information), submittals, and progress reports.
  • Track project progress and address any potential issues or delays, making adjustments to keep projects on schedule and within scope.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to monitor quality, safety, and performance standards.
  • Ensure all project reporting, including progress updates, cost reports, and billing, is submitted to FDOT and senior management in a timely manner.
  • Handle client relationships, addressing concerns, managing expectations, and ensuring a high level of satisfaction with project outcomes.
  • Mentor and support junior project managers, engineers, and field staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performance work environment.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience managing heavy civil construction projects, specifically focused on FDOT infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of FDOT project requirements, guidelines, and specifications.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large, complex heavy civil projects, including roadways, bridges, drainage systems, and utilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience managing project budgets, including estimating, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction contracts, change orders, and government procurement processes.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, including OSHA and FDOT safety standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams and collaborate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and government agencies.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to job sites throughout the Miami area as required.
