THIS IS AN UNCLASSIFIED, NON-CIVIL SERVICE, HOURLY POSITION.
Salary range for this position is between $35.55 to $46.46 Hourly. Hourly wage will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications.
The work schedule may include days, evenings, and weekend hours (Saturday and Sunday). Hours may vary from week to week based on operational needs. Work location and department assignments may also vary and can include Adult, Circulation, Children’s and / or Teen Services, and the MakerSpace and SoundSpace at Central Library, as well as the branch libraries and Bookmobile.

Essential Functions
- Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.
- Assists patrons of all ages in every aspect of utilizing the library.
- Assists the public in accessing information and library resources.
- Assists patrons with circulation functions and financial transactions.
- Designs, develops, and delivers a wide range of virtual and in‑person library programs and events for children, teens, adults, families, and intergenerational audiences, including storytimes, author talks, literacy and STEAM activities, arts and crafts, maker and technology workshops, gallery exhibitions, recitals, trainings, and other activities.
- Monitors cash funds, receives monies, makes out receipts, reconciles and balances accounts or statements, and performs mathematic computations with a calculator, personal computer, or manually.
- Possesses depth of knowledge in children’s, teens and adult services, collection management, cataloging, local history, arts & culture and / or emerging technologies.
- Represents the library in public forums including providing school visits, classroom talks, orientation sessions and library tours and community events.
- Provides some level of reference and research assistance.
- Assists with the library collections arrangement, organization and presentation.
- Plans and implements programs including, but not limited to, storytelling, films, arts and crafts, recitals, gallery exhibitions, training workshops and other activities.
- Assists with library event programming and other services; assists with rentals and the set‑up of auditorium and meeting rooms for special events.
- Assists with facility maintenance functions, including creating and tracking Facility Service Requests (FSR's) as assigned.
- Orders, receives, and invoices library materials.
- Initiates inter library loans, conducts online material and information searches, produces subject bibliographies and reading lists, selects and maintains library materials.
- Maintains currency of professional knowledge by attending professional meetings and staff conferences. Keeps abreast on trends in publishing, automation and public library practices.
- Participates in staff meetings and system oriented planning sessions.
- Maintains records and statistics, as well as prepares associated reports.
- Tracks inventory of office supplies as assigned. Completes forms for ordering materials or supplies and follows up on delivery of ordered materials.
- Directs clerical and part‑time staff when the unit supervisor is absent.
- May be called upon to drive a vehicle or travel on City business as necessary.
- Assists in mobile outreach services. Drives outreach vehicle as needed.
- Regularly drives on City business as the needs of the position requires. May need to use own vehicle to travel between.
- Provides and responds to in-depth readers’ advisory, informational and reference service questions.
- Coordinates, implements, and / or oversees library projects or programs.
- Expends and monitors budgets for assigned areas.
- Provides input on the modification or library procedures, work processes, and services.
- Assists in long range planning based on knowledge of community need.
- Utilizes the Internet and social media to publicize library services.
- Acts as lead library staff or “Person in Charge” as needed to ensure safety of library patrons and other staff members. May exercise lead supervision over lower level staff and may directly supervise assigned subordinate staff. May schedule, train, coordinate, and review work of assigned staff. May assist with hiring and evaluating staff.
- Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of the position are performed in a safe efficient manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires.
Experience
Education
Master’s of Library Science degree from an accredited college or university. Current students who lack eight semester units or twelve quarter units of the educational requirement for a Master’s Degree may also apply. Successful candidates must meet the full educational requirement within six months of employment (by the end of the probationary period).
