Position Summary
As part of its commitment to service in the public interest, NYU School of Law created the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP). LRAP is designed to support graduates pursuing careers in public service. To help in the administration of this program, the School of Law is seeking a candidate for the position of LRAP Financial Aid Counselor. The LRAP Counselor will review and evaluate LRAP applications to assist in making eligibility determinations in compliance with programmatic guidelines and assist in resolving LRAP appeals or requests for special review. The LRAP Counselor will process incoming documents for LRAP applications ensuring that all necessary documentation is received from applicants. The LRAP Counselor will assist in performing audits of LRAP applications to ensure compliance with all applicable financial aid guidance and requirements. At the direction of the LRAP administrator, the LRAP counselor will create benefit check requests and work closely with university offices and colleagues to insure accurate and timely processing of benefit payments. The LRAP Counselor will provide day-to-day LRAP counseling and advising of current students, prospective enrollees, and graduates, providing guidance on issues relevant to both institutional aid and borrowing, serving as primary resource in this regard. Additionally, the LRAP Counselor will advise on general loan borrowing and repayment, debt burden, consolidation, and basic financial management relevant to LRAP eligibility. The LRAP Counselor will also assist in organizing and indexing documentation for LRAP applications and perform outreach to external agencies when necessary for the processing of LRAP applications; respond to LRAP e-mails, telephone calls, and walk-ins with comprehensive knowledge of the LRAP guidelines and policies. The LRAP Counselor will be expected to represent LRAP and the School of Law at various on-campus functions throughout the year including recruitment events, panels, and information sessions. The LRAP Counselor will also be responsible for various related duties as assigned by the LRAP administrator.
Qualifications
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience:
1+ years relevant experience in a financial aid and/or student services environment
Preferred Experience:
1+ years student financial air and LRAP counseling
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interpret and apply laws, policies and procedures in a student financial services setting. Familiarity with automated financial aid processing systems.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures, as well as a familiarity with and interest in working with automated financial systems.
Additional Information
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $75,000.00 to USD $85,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
