The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers : 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer. Overview BSU has built a nationally awarded Undergraduate Research (UR) program with significant support and opportunities for students in any major to discover new knowledge and make original contributions to their discipline or community. The GA will support the UR program administration by helping to coordinate conference-travel grants, on-campus and online symposia, BSU's undergraduate-research journal, and the program's online presence. The position offers opportunities to develop skills that are highly valued in a diversity of professions : written, oral, and visual / design communications; collaboration across academic disciplines and various departments of the university; event-planning; data tracking and analysis; and creating customized print, email, and website content for different audiences (students, faculty, and community members). Responsibilities The GA's primary responsibilities are as follows :
- Play a key role in coordinating the ATP Symposium in October, Mid-Year Symposium in December, and Student Arts & Research Symposium in April, which are events for several hundred student-presenters, by planning and building schedules, managing sign-ups and student communications, creating abstract books, and staffing the events.
- Support students traveling to present their research at national and regional conferences by researching flights and hotels, meeting with students about what to expect at academic conferences, and helping them design posters for presentations.
- Provide guidance, in one-on-one meetings and email communications, for students across the disciplines participating in, or seeking to learn more about, undergraduate research, including the Adrian Tinsley Program (ATP) summer grant opportunity.
- Assist with editing the Undergraduate Review, a journal of student research, by helping to coordinate faculty reviews of manuscript submissions, managing student revisions, and conducting copy editing.
- Update / maintain BridgeNet (internal website) pages, forms (Microsoft Forms and Qualtrics), online resources, handouts, and other materials and resources for student-researchers.
- Create content / materials that promote BSU's UR opportunities for various audiences / constituents (e.g., PowerPoint slides for Admissions sessions, flyers for info fairs, email communications with prospective student-researchers), reflecting our commitment to racial and social justice, and ensuring equitable access to transformative experiences at BSU.
