Who We Are

Founded in 1965, UC Irvine is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities and is ranked among the nation's top 10 public universities by U.S. News & World Report. The campus has produced five Nobel laureates and is known for its academic achievement, premier research, innovation and anteater mascot. Led by Chancellor Howard Gillman, UC Irvine has more than 36,000 students and offers 224 degree programs. It's located in one of the world's safest and most economically vibrant communities and is Orange County's second-largest employer, contributing $7 billion annually to the local economy and $8 billion statewide.

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health is a regional leader in research, training, and advocacy for a wide range of topics related to environmental health science and occupational medicine. It is one of the only academic departments that conduct research and provide training in occupational and environmental health science in Orange County.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that environmental factors contribute to 23% of all deaths worldwide and 36% of deaths among children younger than 14 years, underscoring the need for trained professionals to address the major contribution of environmental factors to disease and mortality. As a dynamic and growing department, it strives to respond to this urgent and ongoing need by engaging a robust and diverse community of mission-driven students and faculty.

Your Role on the Team

The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will be responsible for supporting the research efforts of the LAS VOCES Health Study by providing multilayered recruitment strategies, comprehensive coordination, accurate participant tracking and data management for the LAS VOCES research study according to standard operating procedure (SOPs), and University policies and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for supporting and coordinating all aspects including recruitment, consenting, administering questionnaires, answering research participant questions, scheduling appointments, physical measurements, biospecimen collection and processing, and training and supervising new staff according to SOPs. Incumbent will collect clinical data in compliance with established study protocols, will maintain records and periodically prepare written progress reports, and may help develop or modify SOPs as needed under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Incumbent will also support qualitative data collection surrounding energy transitions and oil and gas issues in California. The incumbent is responsible for identifying key stakeholders, coordinating varied schedules, preparing comprehensive interview guides, accurate recording and transcription of interviews, and analysis using a social science lens. Incumbent will ensure study protocols are followed, appropriate documentation is kept, and accurate data is collected.

The ideal candidate for this position will be grounded in best practices of community engagement and research translation in public and environmental health and will have significant previous experience in the approaches we propose (e.g., community engagement, research translation for professional and lay audiences, social media, community-based participatory research, partnership building), experience in environmental health, public health, or health sciences, and an interest in ensuring that the influences of research in these areas extend to public health protections.
