Position Description :
Purpose
Under general supervision provide support for department research through projects, maintenance and communication of data, and execution of laboratory experiments. Support research on the structure and dynamics and in vivo function of bacterial proteins identified as drug targets for the development of novel antibiotics.
Primary Functions
- Carry out experimental designs for sponsored research projects and perform routine experiments.
- Record and compile accurate records and communicate summaries of experimental results.
- Assist with the evaluation, interpretation and assessment of experimental data and quality control of assays.
- Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate / interpret the validity of data as needed.
- Carry out assigned duties for ordering and maintaining supply of inventories.
- Operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used in research.
- Prepare media and buffers and perform routine laboratory maintenance.
- Express and purify recombinant proteins from E. coli using column chromatography.
- Label, concentrate, and prepare samples for EPR spectroscopy and other biophysical studies.
- Operate specialized EPR spectroscopy instrumentation as trained.
- Carry out in vivo growth assays.
- Perform other scientific and administrative duties as assigned.
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
Ability to meticulously carry out experiments as trained. Ability to accurately determine basic math and chemistry calculations, maintain records, and carry out experiments in a timely and organized manner. Ability to work independently with proper training. Attention to detail. Honesty. Integrity. Experience in growing bacterial cultures, making buffers and media, carrying out molecular biology and microbiology assays and purifying protein from bacteria will be highly beneficial.
Preferred Schedule : Mon-Fri 8am - 5pm
