POSITION SUMMARY
Faculty in this position will be responsible for establishing an internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program with a focus on student involvement and mentorship. Faculty in this role will ensure student research achievement, build strategic collaborative partnerships, and contribute to institutional service activities. He / she will perform other duties to further the mission of the research department and the Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Establish an externally funded research program.
- Ensures productivity of data gathering by performing research, training and overseeing post-docs, graduate students and lab techs.
- Manages research training of pre-matriculation undergraduate students and actively creates training content and materials to ensure success.
- Identifies appropriate extramural funding mechanisms and takes lead, as PI, in submitting applications to obtain said funding. Submits average of 6 applications per year until adequate funding to maintain research agenda is obtained.
- Prepares manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
- Promotes medical student and pre-matriculation student involvement in research activities. Provides opportunities for student contribution to peer-review journals including data gathering, analyzing, figure preparation, manuscript and grant writing.
- Directs the day-to-day management of research activities (facilitating meetings, ensuring adherence to college policies, practices and protocols, preparation of annual departmental report and all other reporting requirements).
- Develops research budget recommendations for approval and assumes fiscal accountability for prudent management of financial resources, ensuring adherence to college practices (preparing and submitting annually, monitoring expenditures, reconciling monthly, examining income / expense statements, assessing needs [operating and capital], ensuring optimal utilization of facilities and resources, following protocols, formulating recommendations, effectively documenting, etc.
- Oversees / manages direct reports and assigned department(s) (defining / outlining roles and responsibilities, assigning tasks / projects, coordinating cohesive productivity, providing guidance toward optimal performance, clarifying / instructing on duties, deadlines, and expectations, reviewing / conducting performance evaluations).
- Assists with and serves as a resource for problem resolution (trouble-shooting problems, changing duties as demands dictate, delegating and / or re-distributing tasks / projects due to volume or extenuating circumstances, personnel issues administering “due process” protocols, crisis management, etc.)
- Oversees personnel recordkeeping (vacation, holiday, sick time, etc.) monitoring activities, recording absences, directing the updating of files, etc.
Create, foster, and maintain intra- and inter-collegiate research relationships.
Identifies and builds research relationships for the college with local, regional, national and international research partners that have common interests and a willingness to collaborate with our research team.
Actively engage in the advancement of Noorda-COM as it relates to the research department.
Contribute to the research team by performing other duties as needed / assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification :
Terminal degree in an appropriate health related science. US citizenship or permanent residency is required.
