Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for supporting all technical support activities necessary for the maintenance and support of existing products, field repair activities, manufacturing operations, product specifications, quality specifications, standards development, and the development of new and improved products.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs the efforts of the research and development staff to perform tests and research for product improvement and new product development to meet current customer needs and to increase opportunities for future sales and growth.
  • Selects, develops, and evaluates a R&D staff to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Ensures customers problems are resolved with accuracy and efficiency to retain current business and attract new business.
  • Supports sales and marketing effort including training and customer support.
  • Assists with market and product cost analysis to support pricing decisions and to determine opportunities for new products or changes in existing products.
  • Assists in the development of product material and labor standards for new and existing products.
  • Supports field repair activities to determine reasons for product performance problems. Provides direction for the resolution of product issues or field modifications.
  • Develops the image of FGS as a technical leader in the industry by authoring technical publications, conducting customer technical seminars, making presentations, and participating in industry forums.
  • Participates in the maintenance and development of industry standards and recommended practices development (. ASTM, UL, AWWA, ASME, PEI, NFPA, IAPMO,
  • Participates in the development of product literature and warranties.
  • Authors technical documents, publications, patents, and technical seminars in support of our products and the FRP industry.
  • Determines which chemicals / products are suitable for use with our products.
  • Develops and maintains manufacturing and quality specifications to define all aspects of raw materials purchased, manufacturing requirements, packaging, and shipping requirements.
  • Provides technical guidance, training, and support of manufacturing operations personnel.
  • Develops and maintains regular audit testing of produced products to ensure adherence to product specifications and performance requirements.
  • Conducts material and product testing including material properties, corrosion resistance, and performance testing to ensure that our existing and new products meet all fitness for use requirements.
  • Design and test new and improved products including establishing product fitness for use requirements.
  • Wear appropriate PPE when in required areas.
  • Comply with all NOV Company policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Comply with all HSE policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Comply with all Quality policies, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering with Mechanical preferred.
  • It is preferred that the engineer be a registered engineer with a mechanical or structural PE stamp from at least one state. An advanced degree is also a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of FRP product capabilities, experience in FRP industry and design.
  • JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Thorough knowledge of product, manufacturing processes, and principles.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or control; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Travel to Manufacturing Facilities throughout the US – approx. 20% to 30% of time

  • Requires excellent computer skills in spreadsheets, data manipulation, database, CAD, and word processing
  • Mathcad and finite analysis experience is desired
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Strong math and writing skills
  • Ability to learn technical repair and assembly guidelines and procedures
  • Ability to read drawings, instructions or repair, and assembly operations
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
