Job description

Residence Life Coordinator

Rhodes College is currently seeking applications for the Residence Life Coordinator. At Rhodes College, we aspire to graduate students with a lifelong passion for learning, compassion for others, and the ability to translate academic study and personal concern into effective leadership and action in their communities and the world. We will achieve this aspiration through a college-wide commitment to our vision. Rhodes' rigorous approach to liberal arts and sciences inspires students to discover and cultivate lifelong passions and make a difference in the classroom, on campus, in the city of Memphis, and worldwide. Simply put, our mission is to prepare students for life and career, wherever those journeys take them. The Division of Student Life plays an integral role in the College's vision and values, and every member supports the delivery of a transformative student experience.

The Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for supporting and enhancing the effectiveness of the Office of Residence Life, as well as participating in the development of a comprehensive residential experience for students.

This position is a critical part of the Residence Life staff team, supervising student staff and providing direct care and support to students in a residential environment. • Advise, counsel, and seek to develop residents in alignment with the department's mission, vision, and strategies to create and sustain a supportive residential educational environment.
  • Assist, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistants on community development, program development, and program execution. Attend Resident Assistant programs and oversee the assessment of programs to determine effectiveness.
  • Serve in the on-call rotation for crisis intervention and emergency assistance in coordination with Residence Life and Student Life on-call staff.
  • Conduct prompt, equitable, and impartial investigations related to alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct and other College policies.
  • Work collaboratively with Campus Safety, Community Standards, Counseling Center, Academic Learning & Resources, Physical Plant, Student Engagement, and other student life departments to provide exceptional student assistance.
  • Advocate for and support students, especially in crisis and urgent situations, by hearing concerns and complaints, communicating effectively with family members or guardians, and creating a plan for coordinated care with appropriate campus partners. Assist with evacuating residential students and relocation as determined by Rhodes College. This includes inclement weather or other living conditions requiring college evacuation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life.
