The Soulsville Charter School is seeking a great High School Exceptional Education Math Inclusion Instructor for the 6-7 school year who will go the extra mile to ensure that their students achieve at high levels.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Exceptional Education Math Inclusion Instructor has the primary responsibility for providing direct services to students, consulting with other professionals, and consulting and discussing issues with parents. The teacher plans, delivers, and evaluates instructional outcomes and conducts the research needed to perform the essential functions of the position.
Begun in 5, The Soulsville Charter School (TSCS)’s mission is to prepare students for success in college and life in an academically rigorous, music-rich environment. Located in the inner-city neighborhood of Soulsville, USA, in Memphis, TN, TSCS is adjacent to the site of historic Stax Records, where the Stax Museum of American Soul Music now celebrates and preserves the Stax story. TSCS began with sixty students in sixth grade and has since grown to serve + students in grades 6- with about a third of the students living in the Soulsville community. TSCS is a tuition-free, public charter school that is about changing kids’ life trajectories.

The ideal candidate will have:
- The belief that our mission can and will be accomplished.
- A Bachelor’s degree at minimum.
- Tennessee teaching licensure with Special Education endorsement.
- Experience as a classroom teacher and demonstrated success and ability in subject area.
- Extensive knowledge and strong competence in 9- foundational math skills and state math standards.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, including excellent customer service.
- Knowledge of best teaching and classroom practices.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple complex tasks within a deadline and with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong follow--through skills for completing projects.
- A strong sense of protocol, tact, and diplomacy and ability to work well with a variety of people and personalities and a willingness to take and utilize constructive feedback.
- An understanding of non--profit organizations, events, and especially youth development missions.
- Enthusiastic self motivation, the ability to motivate others, and little need for direct supervision.
- Desire and ability to work with multicultural youth.
- Ability to work with creative people.
- An appreciation of music and various musical styles.
- A commitment to personal professional growth.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including some weekends.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time; ability to lift boxes weighing up to lbs; ability to stoop and reach; ability to climb stairs.
- Knowledge of computers and software program MS Word, Excel and others) and aptitude and willingness to learn new software programs through hands--on use and self study.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and show proof of liability insurance coverage as required by the laws of the State of Tennessee.
