Per CCR 249.3, this job control may be used to fill subsequent vacancies.
The Center for Analytical Chemistry (CAC) is recruiting to fill three (3) Scientific Aid positions located in Sacramento.
Under direct supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the incumbent will perform sample extraction and chemical analysis using validated methods; maintain records and prepare reports; assist in validation and modification of methods. Duties include but are not limited to :
- Prepare samples for chemical analysis. This includes grinding, weighing, and extracting samples.
- Perform sample cleanup using various solid phase cleanup procedures.
- Prepare equipment and chemical reagents needed for analysis.
- Clean equipment and glassware used in the sample extraction area.
- Keep sample prep area in good working order. This includes emptying solvent wastes, washing glassware, and changing gas tanks.
- Assist lab technicians and environmental scientists with logging in and labeling samples per documented protocols.
- Distribute samples to appropriate storage areas, i.e. freezers, refrigerators or storage shelves.
- Maintain logs of sample extraction and refrigerator traffic.

Working Conditions
The duties of this job are performed indoors approximately 90% of the time, with 10% of the time being spent in onsite storage areas distributing samples. Regular or recurring telework may occur as part of the incumbent’s ongoing regular schedule in accordance with CDFA’s Telework Policy. The employee’s workplace is the Center for Analytical Chemistry Buildings A and B. All equipment needed for completing required tasks will be provided. The buildings have an air-conditioning / heating system. The employee may be exposed to fumes, gases, or odors in certain work areas.

The Center for Analytical Chemistry has free parking and is located next to a light rail station.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles is required prior to appointment. Education : Equivalent to completion of two years of college with a minimum of 10 semester hours of chemistry. Transcripts are required to verify education.
