You will also focus on elevating the technical capabilities of your team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and driving operational excellence within our packaging engineering efforts.

Key Responsibilities :

Packaging Design and Development :

  • Lead the design and development of innovative packaging solutions for semiconductor products, ensuring alignment with customer specifications, industry standards, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Apply packaging design principles and prototyping techniques to create conceptual designs and detailed engineering drawings in SolidWorks or NX, factoring in product protection, transportation challenges, and ergonomics considerations.
  • Ensure strict compliance with customer and industry specifications regarding quality, reliability, and aesthetics.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand customer needs, market dynamics, and packaging requirements to ensure engineering efforts seamlessly integrated into broader business operations.
  • Conduct thorough design reviews, feasibility analyses, and risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate potential issues.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate packaging materials, considering cost, sustainability, and performance criteria.
  • Oversee packaging testing procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and product specifications.
  • Coordinate with internal packaging testing laboratories or external partners to conduct packaging performance, durability, and environmental tests.
  • Analyze test results and make recommendations for design improvements or material changes as required.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders to provide project updates, address concerns, and solicit feedback.
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization while maintaining or improving packaging performance and quality.
  • Coordinate with external partners, suppliers, and vendors to source materials, components, and services necessary for product / packaging development.
  • Evaluate alternative materials, recycling options, and waste reduction strategies to minimize environmental impact.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and standard operating procedures for developing, testing, documenting and manufacturing packaging.

Project Management and Leadership :

  • Oversee multiple high-priority projects simultaneously, ensuring all design deliverables are met on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Serve as engineering single point of contact for customers in the team’s portfolio.
  • Develop project plans, allocate project resources, and lead design engineers in developing packaging solutions.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential roadblocks, and take proactive measures to keep projects on track.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing design engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Set clear expectations and key performance indicators (KPIs) for team members, conducting regular performance reviews and offering actionable feedback to support professional growth.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on process optimization, design innovation, and the adoption of best practices across the team.
  • Encourage a culture of knowledge sharing, and ensure the team stays updated on the latest industry trends, tools, and methodologies.
  • Identify and implement efficiency improvements in team workflows and resource utilization, promoting operational excellence.
  • Education / Knowledge / Skills / Experience Desired :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in Packaging Engineering or related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, NX preferred), and a strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), including ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial packaging, packaging design, distribution packaging, package testing / qualification, and resolving packaging related issues.
  • Familiarity with ASTM, ISO, MIL, FEFCO and ISTA standards related to packaging design, material handling and testing.
  • Strong technical expertise in failure mechanisms, cushion design, distribution environments, and packaging manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to measure accurately using variety of measuring equipment like Tape measurer, calipers, and scales to record design requirements for customer parts.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with a focus on planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a proven ability to drive projects to successful completion.
