For more than 117 years, Merrick Community Services has demonstrated through its mission that it champions thriving communities by eliminating barriers and providing essential resources to promote stability, independence, social and economic justice.

Merrick Community Services was founded on Saint Paul’s East Side in 1908 as the Christ Child Society, a part of a national model of settlement houses, which provided essential services to economically disadvantaged communities.  Today, Merrick Community Services stands as one of the oldest nonprofit agencies in Ramsey County, with a history of assisting individuals and families transition from poverty to become self-sufficient and stable.  The core programs of MCS are Employment and Career Services, Family and Community Services, Food Shelf, and Meals on Wheels.

Description

The Senior Program Manager is tasked with the responsibility for the direct management, supervision, planning, and development of all MCS programs : Employment and Career Services, Family and Community Services, Food Shelf, and Meals on Wheels, This position reports to the Director of Programs.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years’ supervisory and programming experience.

The ideal candidate will understand, appreciate, and value the significance of race, ethnicity, social-economic status, poverty, and cultural backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Collaborate with the Director of Programs to interview and hire department staff.
  • Approve bi-weekly timesheets and create / coordinate a monthly Work from Home Calendar.
  • Supervise all direct service program staff.
  • Model, direct, and promote compliance with the Agency Employee Handbook.
  • Support program staff to meet objectives, attain goals, and identify opportunities and / or barriers related to job performance.
  • Evaluate work performance, based on Annual Work Plans.
  • Oversight of case management documentation, tracking, and billing.
  • Ensure staff participates in required agency and program-related trainings and development.
  • Help create and maintain a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work culture and environment.
  • Participate in MCS fundraising events.
  • Represent MCS to the East Side community with area partners and others in a supportive, positive manner.

Program Design and Delivery

  • Plan, coordinate, develop, and implement all aspects of MCS programs.
  • Manage and effectively coordinate and develop complex relationships with funding partners, and vendors.
  • Confirm, convey and ensure compliance with contracts and grants.
  • Complete required and requested reports, evaluations, and summary analysis in a timely manner.
  • In coordination with the Director of Programs, analyze and evaluate Program Outcomes Measurements and Results, to ensure they are recorded in a timely manner and are accurate and complete in the agency database.
  • Support the Director of Programs in developing and monitoring annual department budget.
  • Program and Staff Management

  • Train and on-board department staff.
  • Assure quality delivery of family direct services through best practices, management, and supervision.
  • Support Direct Service Staff with training on Shared Intake Process and Data Management Protocols and Standards.
  • Analyze and Evaluate Program Performance based on Outcome Measurements, which will be captured in a Program Dashboard, to be shared with Funders and others, as needed.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred, together with 5-7 years of experience in public and / or non-profit organization is preferred. 3 years of supervisory experience required.
  • Candidates may also have prior work experience in human service / social work backgrounds and experience.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Be familiar with current non-profit sector trends and best practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail, in order to manage many different tasks and strategies simultaneously, including being self-directed and timely in completing work and meeting deadlines.
  • Develop and cultivate positive relationships with local businesses, faith communities, volunteers, and colleagues; and, to maintain relationships over time to the benefit of MCS.
  • Innovative, critical thinker, and creative problem-solver in addressing challenges.
  • Successful track record working with and engaging diverse populations, particularly BIPOC individuals and families in poverty, involved with the criminal justice system, and others who identify outside of the dominant culture.
  • Experience modeling respectful, inclusive, and responsible behavior consistent with the agency’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Demonstrated performance to provide accurate and timely reports to organization leadership, funders, and others.
  • Experience with managing and developing budgets and preparing financial reports.
  • Effective knowledge of technology and software tools to communicate in print and electronically.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources, supervision, and ability to manage diverse staff, and contractors.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
