Summary:
This is a fast-paced Automotive Dealership Service Center.
The Service Cashier is primarily responsible for receiving payment from customers for goods and services, recording the amount received and accurately posting it, and accounting for it while maintaining customer satisfaction.
Automotive Service Cashier - Essential Duties
- Greets customers with a smile at the cashier desk, pleasantly and professionally.
- Computes customer bills.
- Receives cash, checks, and credit card payments from customers; records the amount received.
- Makes changes and issues receipts to customers.
- Provides cash refunds or credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise.
- Operates cash register.
- Reconciles the cash drawer daily.
- Refers customers who have questions about the work performed, additional maintenance, or repairs, etc., to the service advisor or other appropriate individual.
- Handles customer complaints with integrity and poise and, when necessary, refers dissatisfied customers to the appropriate individuals for resolution.
- Assist with Rental Units and Agreements.
- Maintains and files repair orders, rental forms, and lists missing documents.
- Closes all open invoices.
- Reconciles gas purchase statements.
- Assists the service department with telephone coverage.
- Provides clerical and secretarial assistance to parts and service departments.
- Works with department manager to keep abreast of new products and services offered, their features and value, and any changes in price.
- Maintains a professional appearance.
- Keeps work area neat and clean.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Automotive Service Cashier - Qualifications

Automotive Service Cashier - Education and/or Experience
- No prior experience or training.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Automotive Service Cashier - Language Skills
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Automotive Service Cashier - Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Automotive Service Cashier - Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
