Position Summary

The Linux Endpoint Service Engineer is responsible for managing Linux (preferably Ubuntu) client endpoints such as workstations and laptops within operational technology (OT) environments. This role combines advanced technical expertise with strong service ownership to ensure endpoint reliability, policy compliance, and seamless integration within a large enterprise ecosystem. The engineer will lead efforts in image hardening, incident / problem resolution, and automation, collaborating with managed service providers (MSPs) and internal resources. Passion for leveraging AI in workplace processes is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Linux Endpoint Administration

Manage and optimize Linux (Ubuntu) client endpoints, ensuring high performance and compliance.

  • Adhere to and enforce enterprise policy compliance, including configuration standards and security frameworks.
  • Maintain seamless integration between Linux endpoints and enterprise systems, ensuring compatibility with other services (e.g., Active Directory, automation tools).
  • Image Hardening
  • Harden Linux OS images in alignment with NIST benchmarks and corporate security policies, creating secure and reliable baselines.

  • Continuously update and refine image configurations to address emerging threats and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Document and version-control all image builds for consistency across deployments.
  • Service Ownership
  • Own the Linux endpoint service stack, overseeing incident, problem, change, and request management within an ITIL-aligned framework.

  • Collaborate with managed service providers (MSPs) and internal teams to execute processes and maintain service quality.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce SOPs and work instructions to support compliance and efficiency in service execution.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting (L3 / L4)
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting of Linux OS issues, diagnosing and resolving complex technical challenges.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional enterprise teams (e.g., networking, Active Directory, automation, and ITSM teams) to troubleshoot dependencies and interconnected systems.
  • Work within environments configured with firewalls, requiring a strong understanding of network interfacing and the ability to rule out network-related dependencies during issue resolution.
  • Address API-related challenges and integrations with tools such as ITSM systems (e.g., ServiceNow) or quality management systems.
  • Automation and AI Implementation
  • Use intermediate to advanced Python skills to automate repetitive tasks and improve efficiency.

  • Build and maintain integrations with other enterprise systems through APIs, streamlining workflows across the endpoint service stack.
  • Advocate for or implement AI-driven solutions to enhance endpoint management, service delivery, and operational efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Collaborate with technical stakeholders (security, networking, infrastructure) and business stakeholders to align endpoint services with organizational goals.

  • Maintain strong relationships across teams, ensuring clear communication and efficient coordination of services.
  • Provide service performance updates, risks, and recommendations to leadership.
  • Regulatory and Compliance Alignment
  • Ensure all processes and systems align with company policies and regulatory requirements, such as GxP principles.

  • Maintain precise documentation for audits, changes, and incident resolutions.
  • Additional Requirements

  • This role will require working on-site as needed in Santa Clara, CA. While the position allows flexibility, candidates must be comfortable with starting their day at 5 : 00 am periodically to interface with global team members.
  • Qualifications

    Must-Have Skills

  • Core Technical Expertise
  • Advanced-level experience managing Linux Desktop OS (preferably Ubuntu) in client environments, particularly in OT settings.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot at the OS level in complex enterprise ecosystems.
  • Experience in image hardening, following frameworks like NIST or similar benchmarks.
  • Enterprise Collaboration and Troubleshooting
  • Strong familiarity with enterprise dependencies, including networking, Active Directory, ITSM tools, and system APIs.

  • Experience working in environments configured with firewalls, requiring knowledge of network interfacing and dependency analysis.
  • Ability to resolve issues in large-scale, highly interconnected environments, working across teams and technologies.
  • Automation and AI

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Python, with experience in automation and system integrations.
  • Interest or experience in deploying AI solutions to enhance endpoint management or workplace productivity.
  • Service Management

  • Comprehensive understanding of ITIL principles, including incident, problem, change, and request management.
  • Experience with ITSM tools like ServiceNow is highly desirable.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Effective communicator with the ability to engage technical teams, business stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Proven ability to balance technical priorities with business objectives in a service delivery context.
  • Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in diagnosing interconnected system issues.
  • Detail-oriented and skilled in maintaining accurate, compliant documentation.
  • Passion for innovation and continuous improvement, particularly in applying modern technologies like AI.
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Certifications

  • CompTIA Linux+, RHCSA / RHCE, or Ubuntu Certified Professional.
  • ITIL Foundation or equivalent certification.
  • Experience

  • 5+ years managing Linux client endpoints in enterprise environments, ideally within regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with OT-specific use cases or environments is a strong plus.
  • Experience with Canonical Landscape or other fleet management tools.
