Sheet Metal and Tinsmith Workers are responsible for tinsmith coppersmith and engraving duties on locomotives passenger cars engines and related equipment.
Pipe Fitters are responsible for replacing installing cutting fabricating and inspecting all manner of hoses piping valves and tubing on locomotives passenger cars and engines.
Responsibilities :
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to :
Sheet metal work consists of both pipefitting and tinsmith duties.
Pipefitter work consists of cutting binding threading repairing and applying pipe connections to passenger cars and diesel locomotives. Also consists of layout installation of piping for highpressure steam in yards shops and buildings. Pipefitter will be required to inspect / repair equipment which will include stooping crouching and kneeling in confined spaces.
Tinsmith work consists of layout fabrication assembly and installation of all types of sheet metal and / or their substitutes. Also includes complete air conditioning ducting in passenger cars. Tinsmith will be required to handle sheets of metal 4 x 8.
Qualifications :
A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent (GED or TASC) approved by a States Department of Education or recognized accredited organization.
Ability to perform all pipe installation duties including welding and layout and fabrication work including soldering and brazing.
Must possess thorough knowledge of associated hand tools and sheet metal shop mechanics.
Ability to work inside and outside in all types of weather conditions.
Must be able to walk short distances (80100 feet) frequently during an 8hour shift and greater distances (up to 1000 feet or more) daily.
Knowledgeable in shop mathematics.
Preferred / Desirable Skill / Qualification :
Four years experience at the various skills of the trade and / or apprenticeship served.
