Job Summary
We’re seeking a creative and motivated university student to join our team as a Social Media Coordinator for University Advancement at the University of Utah. In this role, you’ll help share the impact of philanthropy at the U, connecting with alumni, donors, parents, and our broader community through engaging digital content. You’ll be part of the team that tells the university’s story online, from managing social media accounts and editing videos to supporting campaigns and events that celebrate and promote giving. This role is for you, if you enjoy being creative, have an eye for digital trends, and you want to use your skills to make a real difference on campus.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities :
Social Media Management & Strategy
Identify and implement innovative approaches to increase the university’s visibility and engagement on various social media platforms.
Assist with posting, monitoring, and engaging across social media platforms.
Contribute to brainstorming and strategy sessions for campaigns and ongoing content.
Research trends and best practices to inform content planning.
Draft and edit captions, graphics, and visuals tailored to each platform.
Content Creation & Video Editing
Create compelling, on-brand content that highlights philanthropic initiatives, success stories, and impact.
Capture and edit short-form video content (Reels, event highlights, etc.)
Design graphics using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
Assist with developing a library of photos, videos, and creative assets.
Campaigns & Events
Assist with the planning and promotion of digital marketing campaigns.
Support event coverage by capturing live social content (photos, stories, videos).
Help track performance and audience engagement during campaigns / events.
Collaborate with the digital marking team, to align social media efforts with broader marketing campaigns.
Help map content to the academic calendar, university events, and priority topics.
Analytics & Reporting
Monitor analytics and help prepare performance reports.
Provide feedback and insights to improve future content and campaigns.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferences
Current University of Utah student majoring in communication or related field.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Must be available to work some evenings for events or weekends as needed.
Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.
Proficiency in using social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube.
Strong writing, organization, and communication skills.
Basic experience using Canva, InDesign, or some design software.
Video Editing software is a plus.
Creative mindset with the ability to generate engaging content.
Experience with social media analytics and reporting tools.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
