Summary : The Director for Social Justice Ministry promotes Catholic Social Teaching through awareness, education, advocacy, and ministry. The Director serves as the subject matter specialist on social doctrine in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, offering resources to parishes, Catholic schools, and Catholic organizations in the development of faithful citizenship, justice and peace issues, Catholic Social Teaching (CST) and other missionary and outreach programs as assigned. The Director is responsible for fundamental integration of the New Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship in a “pastoral de conjunto” to serve the multicultural pastoral needs of the Archdiocese. The Director is the representative of the Archbishop in matters pertaining to justice and peace. This role represents the Archdiocese before government agencies, non-profit organizations, and other organizations that promote the welfare of society in the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
Requirements
Position Responsibilities :
- Stay up-to-date on communication from the Church Magisterium and different coordinating bodies of the college of bishops (The Magisterium, USCCB, TCCB, etc).
- Work with pastors and parish leaders to create or support parish-based ministries that encourage and promote Catholic Social Teaching.
- Provide resource review and recommendations for parishes in the areas of social justice ministry.
- Serve as a liaison to organizations like CCHD and CRS and represent the archdiocese in committees and coalitions related to Justice and Peace. Oversee any committee that serves as an advisory group on issues related to this office. Provide content for ongoing leadership formation, support, and coordination of this group.
- Apply for grants where appropriate to support collaborative and ongoing ministerial work, including the annual CCHD Application Review.
- Develop and maintain budget for Social Justice Ministry
- Offer and discuss with Communications Department and Catholic Charities of San Antonio specific content in support of the USCCB campaigns and priorities : immigration, faithful citizenship, education, global solidarity and poverty awareness.
- Participate in task force teams in creating, planning, annual goals and objectives, evaluating programs and events, in matters of content and attending department meetings as required.
- Be informed of any important gathering or activity internal or external to the Catholic Church in National, Regional, or Local matters pertaining to this role.
- Study legislation, statutes, decisions, regulations, and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies to determine ramifications that would affect in any way the interests of the Catholic Church and its doctrine.
- Suggest means of interpreting the Social Doctrine of the Church for individuals, public and private organizations, businesses, organizations and institutions.
- Develop National / Regional / Local Partnerships and Relationships.
- Be attentive to the needs of a culturally diverse Archdiocesan population, especially Hispanic, incorporating cultural sensitivity into all facets of the ministry.
- Inventory and develop partnerships of Lay Ecclesial Movements, internal and external Church organizations
- Adhere to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
- Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
