Overall Purpose The job of School Social Worker is done for the purpose / s of identifying and addressing the social, emotional, environmental, and / or systematic barriers that interfere with student engagement and achievement; promoting and supporting positive school climate and culture; and collaborating and restoring communication among and between the home, the school, and the community.Direct Supervisor Director of School Social WorkEssential Functions Conducts various assessments as deemed appropriate (i.e. needs assessments; biopsychosocial assessments; trauma assessments ) Develops and implements intervention plans consistent with assessment results to promote academic achievement and the social, emotional well-being of students and families Facilitates brief individual and group counseling (at both the elementary and secondary level) to support and promote the social, emotional health and overall engagement of all students Provides crisis intervention and support following events that interrupt the routine function of the school and / or community (e. student / staff death or significant injury; suicidal ideation or self-harm). Collaborates and refers students, families, and staff to district and community stakeholders (DFCS, financial, housing, medical / mental health, probation etc.) that provide services to address issues, which negatively affect both the home and school Coordinates and facilitates bi-monthly cross-functional support personnel meetings to identify and resolve concerns related to academics; attendance; social-emotional health; and environmental / physical barriers. Provides support services to students / families identified within specialized subgroups in accordance with state and federal laws (Foster Care, McKinney-Vento, Migrant Education, Neglected & Delinquent etc.). Completes and submits juvenile complaints to address truancy and educational neglect concerns in accordance with Georgia Compulsory Attendance Conducts home visits and other site visits within the community for the purpose of gathering / sharing information and to build or restore the home-school Coordinates and facilitates workshops, support groups, and training for parents and / or students (parenting skills, community resources, district programs, social skill development, ). Maintains referrals and accompanying documentation in SWARM (Social Worker Activity Referral Module). Mediates conflicts between parents, teachers, and / or students to resolve issues that impede student success. Participates in professional conferences, trainings, and workshops as assigned (continuing education, etc.) to enhance knowledge and Provides training to school personnel as needed on topics related to (child abuse / neglect, suicide, mental health, etc.) to facilitate professional learning for associated Provides supervision and support to Bachelor / Master Level Social Work Interns enrolled in an accredited college or unversity Marginal Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work Competencies Skills-based Competencies Required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
