Lead community engagement planning and stakeholder management that supports Kennecott's social license to operate. Work at our Kennecott operation near Salt Lake City, Utah, partnering with communities, leaders, and operational teams. Develop your career with a global mining leader while delivering meaningful Communities & Social Performance outcomes.

At Rio Tinto, we are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming workplace where everyone feels safe, respected, and able to succeed. We actively encourage applications from women and from people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We know that great capability comes in many forms, and we are focused on building teams that reflect the communities we operate in and support each other to do their best work.

We're Finding Better Ways to provide materials the world needs, now and in the future. Our values - care, courage and curiosity - guide how we work and how we treat each other.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Advisor - Communities & Social Performance (CSP) to coordinate and deliver projects that support the Kennecott Copper operation in Salt Lake City, Utah. In this role, you will help maintain strong relationships, engagement, and social investment with surrounding communities.

This is a great opportunity for a collaborative CSP professional to provide expert advice, manage social risks and impacts, and support the long-term social license to operate for a world-class copper operation.

Reporting to the Manager, Communities & Social Performance and working within a collaborative and purpose-driven team, you will:

  • Create and implement community engagement strategies that build trust and support meaningful external relationships
  • Lead engagement planning, stakeholder management, complaints and grievances, human rights risk, cultural heritage engagement, partnerships, and social investment activities
  • Prepare studies, analysis, and due diligence to understand social, economic, and community impacts related to operations and projects
  • Provide expert advice to operational and functional leaders to assess, manage, and minimize CSP risks and impacts
  • Ensure compliance with Rio Tinto CSP standards, commitments, policies, complaint and grievance mechanisms, and relevant U.S. requirements
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders, community partners, operational leaders, and internal teams
  • Provide clear performance updates to senior leaders and key stakeholders, including recommendations to address challenges and opportunities
  • Model Rio Tinto's values of care, courage, and curiosity while supporting a proactive safety culture, ethical conduct, and inclusive team capability

About You

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in communities, social performance, stakeholder engagement, communications, public affairs, social impact, or a related field
  • 5-10 years of experience in stakeholder management, community engagement, CSP, social impact, public affairs, or a related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of community engagement, social risk management, human rights considerations, complaints and grievance processes, and CSP systems or tools
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills, including calm and thoughtful communication under pressure
  • Proven ability to influence, collaborate, and serve as a trusted thought partner for operational leaders, HSESC leaders, community partners, and broader teams

Even if your profile does not fully meet all qualifications, we encourage you to apply; transferable skills and the right attitude are highly valued.

This role is open to candidates who are legally authorized to work in the United States. We are not able to offer visa sponsorship for this position.

What We Offer

Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you've helped the world progress.

  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
  • Competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with an annual incentive bonus
  • Access to top-tier family-friendly health programs including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, life insurance coverage, and various voluntary benefits
  • Excellent retirement plan including up to 6% defined company contribution and a generous 401(k) matching program
  • Attractive share ownership plan
  • Comprehensive leave policies which cover all the moments that matter in life, including paid time off, paid holidays, and paid bereavement leave
  • A generous parental leave policy, which ensures you are able to spend quality time with your new family
  • Discount programs for leisure purposes and access to Personify Health with incentives supporting your wellbeing
