Job Overview

The Flight Nurse I provides direct patient nursing care in a transport environment, while initiating, assessing and adjusting therapies during transport in response to changes in patient conditions; builds and maintains relationships with multidisciplinary healthcare providers; and collects, monitors, and reports on quality-of-care measures.

Additional Information

Department Name : CSH Flight Team

Job Status : 36 hours / week

Shift : This position will work rotating days and nights, 3x 12hrs shifts, generally 4 weeks days and then 4 weeks nights.

This is a Colorado Springs based position, but the Flight RN may be asked to commute to other CHCO locations as needed.

Eligible Incentives : Relocation assistance available to qualified candidates if relocating from 100 miles or greater. Conditions may apply.

Qualifications

Education : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Experience : Four Years in Neonatal ICU, Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Cardiac ICU, or High Acuity Pediatric Emergency Department (Pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center experience preferred)

Required Certification(s) : BLS / CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire. Specialty certification within one (1) year of hire. Transport specific specialty certification (C-NPT, CFRN or CTRN) required within two (2) years of hire.

Licensure(s) : Registered Nurse (RN) in Colorado (Compact Multi-State license preferred)

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Delivers patient and family centered care in a transport environment while incorporating developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive, evidence based care practices and methodologies. Assesses and adjust therapies during transport in response to changes in patient outcomes.
  • Communicates and advocates patient values, preferences and expressed needs as part of the implementation of care plan, evaluation of care and assessment of patient / family learning needs.
  • Build and maintains strong working relationships with multidisciplinary healthcare providers to provide individualized patient / family care and education while minimizing risks to the patient during transitions of care. Extends hospital resources into the referring communities through clinical care, education and outreach.
  • Researches, compiles, and analyzes data and prepares case records, reports, and correspondence to facilitate communication, clinical decision making, error prevention, and care coordination.
  • Collects, monitors, and reports on quality of care outcomes and measures; provides input into the continuous evaluation and improvement of internal quality and safety processes, procedures, and performance measures.
  • Ensures compliance with clinical policies, procedures, and best practices in order to minimize the risk of harm to patients and providers. Ensures compliance with all safety rules and regulations while on ground and air transports
  • Researches, identifies, and implements evidence based practice to improve the quality of care provided to patients / families.
  • Serves on department and organization-wide committees as directed.

    SCOPE AND LEVEL

    GUIDELINES : Fully qualified, full performance or journey level. Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in situations without precedent.

    COMPLEXITY : Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy. Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion.

    DECISION MAKING : Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed.

    COMMUNICATIONS : Contacts with the patients, families or employees where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight. Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence. Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent. Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed.

  • Ability to maintain compliance with Children's One annual physical fitness requirements that consists of a recurring physical testing of all flight crew members who maintain flight status. The process involves completion of a "pack test" that requires staff to walk three miles within 45 minutes carrying a 20lb weighted vest.
  • Ability to maintain Children's One weight requirement for flight status of 230 lbs. This is measured with full uniform, equipment, coat and helmet as one would weigh in the aircraft with full uniform.

    Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

    Hourly Range : $40.26 to $60.39
